Meeting the adjustor, I just want a break. . .

This week has literally been non-stop for me, on Monday had to get my boy a physical so that he can start school in two weeks, Tuesday I delivered the paperwork to the school, met with my attorney because of this car accident and then had to go for physical therapy. Wednesday was physical therapy again and then I went with Kathryn and my mom to pick up some school clothes, today Kathryn and I had x-rays and then went with Tom to his doctor's appointment. Tomorrow, we have to meet with the adjustor about the damages to my car and then we have physical therapy. Really, all I want is to send the kids both to their grandparent's house for a couple of days and do nothing but stay in bed all day. Just relax. Do you ever feel this way when you are really busy with your life, or am I just strange for some reason? Is there anything that I should expect out of the adjustor that I need to keep my eyes open for? I already know that if they tell me the damages are too low to demand more from them (forgot that I also went on Tuesday to my personal body shop and got a quote on the damages to my car). But any other tips would be greatly appreciated, this is the first time that I've been through this.

Hi Dorannmwin, I worked in Auto Insurance a long time ago but not much changes. Yes...know what your rights are and what you deserve because if you are the claimant then yes, they will try to get you to go with the lower price. Most of the time, they are pretty honest. If the damages are over 500.00 then it is routine to send out an adjuster. Get at least 3 estimates. They all should be reasonably the same give or take. Of course some charge more than others. The adjuster just confirms the damagages from the particular accident. Some vehicles have other damages that were there prior too. They are expert in knowing what was old damage and what was just done. They are only confirming that the damagages being claimed were due to this particular accident. You shouldn't have any trouble with it. Some shady garages will add on to the damages and also people KNOW mechanics that will "make up dents and damage" just to help their friend or themselves. They are just confirming the current damage. I was an in-office adjuster. I could tell if something was off in a claim and I often called a road adjuster to check something out. Sometimes it was just the type of car that made the part so much more. It's all routine...just breath deep. The insurance company has an obligation to repair your vehicle to what it was prior to the accident or call it a total loss. You have the right to choose your own mechanic. If you feel you are being ripped off then by all means argue your case.

I'm re-reading my comment..."sometimes" they will try to get you to go with the lower price. MOST of the time, they are simply confirming that the damages you are claiming are in fact a result of the accident. I would say that MOST claims go through easily and without problems but yes..there are some that get dragged out. If you are claiming physical injuries be aware that they do send "spys" to watch people to make sure their injuries are real.

The amount that the adjuster came up with was pretty close to the amount that my estimates had given, so I don't have anything to complain about with that. Now as far as "spys" to watch and see if my injuries are real, they won't be able to find out much about me because of the fact that I've really not been leaving my house much because I hurt. This past weekend we did go out of town for the day to go to a festival and I really regret the fact that we did that because it has me hurting more than I am used to hurting at this point in time. I do know that I didn't end up with any broken bones since the x-rays confirmed that.
