Tiles in toilets

India
August 4, 2012 7:58am CST
Our home construction was started on 2nd December 2011, it continues because the workers remain absent most of the days on some alibi or other. Two of the old toilets were renovated; tiles were fitted on floor to avoid skidding and on the walls too. When hubby saw it he was disappointed because the work is not up to expectation; those on walls or floor were net set uniformly; the gap between tiles were not filled up and worst thing is he has wasted many tiles; he has taken full money for the work. When contacted on phone he said; Sir to err is human, even moon has dark spots. He cutoff conversation; we kept calling but in vain. I wonder why people are so dishonest; why they behave like this. What is your opinion? Do you have antiskid tiles in toilet floor? Is it not a must to avoid skidding, hubby slipped once his hips got pain for 4 days. Have you faced something similar? Please share your opinion on this. Kalyani August 4th 2012.

Anti slip tiles in the bathroom / toilet, is essential. The floor is often slippery with soap or shampoo. Slipping in the bathroom / toilet is very dangerous, as you will crash with a very hard object. Better to fix it again, rather than inviting danger.

Our bathrooms have anti skid tiles and these were put when the house was constructed. For more security we use bath mats. Laying of tiles needs personal supervision as once they are laid there is nothing one can do to remedy the mistakes committed by the contractor.

Oh Kalyani! WHAT A big waste !Some workers have no integrity whatsoever. Your discussion took me back to my school days.My father wanted to change the ordinary floor of our house to mosaic flooring in each room[this was the fashion in the sixties]and a mason had dug up the whole flooring of our hall and front room.My father was a busy man and was always up to his neck in work.THis stupid mason was a drunkard and and after digging up the floor he just absconded from work for more than a week or ten days .I cannot even remember how many days it was but we were all put to a lot of inconvenience , what with the rough surface of the floor strewn with gravel making us limp across inside the house every time we had to go to the kitchen or dining room or other rooms. It was really horrible; finally father had it completed ..

I would call the work man again, or write to him, asking or telling him that you want the work done properly and completed, or you will take the matter further, as well as show his work for what it really on the internet as well as on every street corner.

We actually have marble tiles on the floor in our bathroom and I will definitely admit that they can get very slippery when wet and there have been a couple of times that I have slipped on them and will hurt myself in a minor sort of way. With that said, I think that when you have someone working as a contractor in your home, you should never pay them the full fee of their job up front because you are far more likely to have subpar work done when payment is made up front. However, if you pay for supplies and a retainer upfront and pay the rest of the fees after the work is done, the quality of the work that you will have done is typically much superior.

the tiles we have in the kitchen is not perfect either. It is our relatives work. My father had to supervise him when putting on tiles on the other part of the house. All I can say is that yes he is partly right human made mistakes. But instead of saying that he should have actually apologize for the fault he has done.

Look at the attitude these workers have. They think they are what? I have slipped but not fell in the bathroom. They do like this. We had break in our house in February and we called the carpenter to fix the door. I don't know what he did that there is 1 inch gap in the middle and when light is on, it is so obvious from outside. Our door folds into 4. two from each side. The told him to fix and he is not coming. thanks for sharing. have a good day.
