I have always been into making christmas gifts...but lately...seems no one wants anything I make so I stopped..but have picked up on quilting again, and am making quilts for all my grand kids this year. Have 2 of them done..got 3 to go! It is really fun and I enjoy it and I know they are going to love the quilts. I used to do baking ..TON of it..but everyone has moved away. I used to make all the tree ornaments, but don't do a tree anymore as I just don't have that much ambition to do the decorating for just myself and the kids never come over but maybe once int he holiday season so why bother with all that work. I am working on placemats too.. I figure to make a set for each holiday and have that little bit of usable decoration...I just finished the ones for Halloween on one side and Thanksgiving on the other. I plan to make Christmas ones...a cute one on one side (cute little reindeers or santa like) and more "adult" on the other..poinsettas or just the colors something like that. I also would like to make an advent calender. I have always wanted to do that but never got around to it, but now with no kids to change the day...where's the fun in it, but for some reason I still want to do one...will finish the other projects first tho. So... have you started working on any Christmas gifts or crafts or decoration? What are you intending to do? Baking or handcrafts?

I have some of the same things going on. I don't have children, so it's mostly my roommate and myself I do things for, when and if I do. I'm getting my workroom cleaned out so I can get to work on the Fall and Winter things right now, and I have a crochet afghan project going. Since we're both feeling the lack of grateful recipients, I'll pass on what my sister suggested to me. Here in Sacramento there are people who make recieving blankets for local hospitals and other groups that make blankets and quilts for homeless people and those who have had emergencies like fires. I'm going to get into doing that; both are worthwhile causes and you know the person recieving your gift will be glad to get it.

I know what yo mean about the lack of grateful recipients. I am working on things for christmas, but after that... I will be working on keepsake quilts...a quilt for my grand daughter on their wedding day or high school graduation day...hopefully they will graduate before they wed! But I want them to have something of me...if I amnot at those events!

I know how you feel. I did both and seems all anyone wants these days is cash or money card LOL I remember when a craft was like a treasure. I cross stitch so my goal is to make one for each of my family members before I pass on. Unfortunately I did not get started til later in life with this craft so I hope I have enough time to do all of them LOL My husband whose mother is still living, told me I had to have a Xmas tree cause of his mother. I looked at him and said REALLY? with that I was online somewhere and someone had sent me a cataloge around xmas holidays and they had a tree that hung on the wall came complete with clear lights and red bows. So I ordered that sucker and when it came all I had to do was unroll it hang it and plug it in LOL. We put our packages on the floor beneath it and it works. Hubby come home and I said look pointing to the wall hanging Xmas tree I said THERES YOUR TREE! I don't have the spirit to decorate anymore. Raised 5 children, and none of my grandbabies are near and hubbys family is 100 or more miles away so usually holidays is just him me and his mother and my son and if son invites any of his friends over to eat with us so I can cook. Still love doing the turkey and ham thing for Thanksgiving and Xmas. So always need help eating and there are a lot of young adults around here that would love a homecooked meal. I am still into crafting though making my daughter another baby afghan almost have all the squares then will put it together. baby is due in Sept. but its hot where she is so I still have a bit of time before she will need it. Soon as I am finished with that, I will happily be back to cross stitching. Happy Crafting to you.

You sound alot like me... no kids anymore so I dont' decorate much. And for some odd reason..the holidays just aren't the same when at my kids house. it is like we haven't gone home for the holiday. The last 3 Christmas have been just barely "fine". But at the same time.. I want a little bit of "change of scenery" for myself so last year I put up 3 little glowing trees and a few things just for the spirit for myself. But that's it! I used to love giving my crafts as gifts. As kids, we always did.. I made embroidery pillow cases for each adult couple int he family...dont' think any of them liked it, but I dont' remember exactly. What really hurt me was one year when we were traveling alot...I made everyone crochets afghans...about double bed size. I gave one to my brother and his snooty wife, and she gave it away to her mother. I made one for my other brother and his rude wife, and she put it on the kids bed to protect their blankets..(it was all stretched and tearing when I saw it!) . I made one for my sister and don't know what ever she did with it..never saw it at her house. Made one for my dad and one for my mom... and both were given as blankets for the kids she did day care for. After that... I never made them anything again! I miss doing al the cooking for the holidays too. I used to make a buffet of food that was out of this world. But family issues happened and the family stopped getting together and now.. last 2 years have been at my son's and his wife just buys frozen foods for dinner, no desserts no special holiday treats or anything! I am enjoying working on the quilts for my GK's and placemats for me I return....happy crafting to you!

You sounds so ambitious. I use to work on Christmas crafts all year long but after a few years I sort of got bored with Christmas crafts and have put them aside for quite some time. I made a ton of Santa coaster and different ornaments. Love to work with plastic canvas. I've been working lately on Sesame Street characters which are wall hangings, not real large, and banks. The finished projects turn out so cute. Have given them to friends who recently became grandmas. It's been a fun idea and I've really enjoyed working on them.

I was that way to. The kids grew up and I had no reason for the crafts anymore so I started scrapbooking. Then I stopped that and did NOTHING for about 5 years due to a health issue. But last year my grand daughter begged me for a dress...she said "I am daddy's princess..how can I be his princess without a princess dress?" She had a dress by the end of the week! And I have been back to sewing since (started at age 10) So last year I decided that after 25 years with the same sewing machine (still worked fine) I thought that since it was 25years ago that I got something new.. I deserved somethign new nad got a new Singer.. and have been quilting every since. Good grief, its only been an year.. I make it sound like eternity! Those canvas things sound cute .... I only got into that as far as needlepoint pictures but there were so many things to do with canvas.

I tend to give jewelry to the gals in my family - still have to figure out what to give my bro! I did make throws for the roomie's family last year, but they were very simple. Might try my hand on a rag quilt for them...

Sounds like a plan! Rag quilts are fun..never done one as they aren't my style, but have seen them and they are pretty nice and popular in the making!

Not yet as I have so many different crafts that I wanted to do and am not well enough to do. I love to make christmas cards for my family, but am unable, also this year I had planned to make some sweet cone trees, a few extra things like transfers on candles I wanted to do and all i have not done. I am thinking of asking a friend to help me make some, as I know that she would really enjoy making a few things.

I used to do so many crafts this time of year, but with no kids around...just isn't any fun anymore! I am working on quilts as that is what the kids are getting for christmas this year! But I do miss making stuff!

I wish I have the hand for arts and crafts, unfortunately whatever I come out with isn't good enough to be gifted. I've tried crochet and cross stitch, but I don't think they are for me. Wow, just a month more and it's gonna be the "BER" months, my, how time flies by. For Christmas, we usually give baskets of goodies to my aunts and uncles and GCs to the teen cousins and siblings. It's really hard to get them anything that they would appreciate and use at their age. Now, for my husband, I'm running out of ideas.

Oh I know Raine38... it gets harder every year. My GD is 12 and her mother has gotten her things that I never would have..meaning...if you got her the TV for her room when she was 9...what do you get her when she is 16? Or my son got his 6yo daughter a large keyboard for Christmas last year..bigger than she is! What is he goig to get her when she is older? 2 years ago he got all three of his kids tv/DVD players for their rooms...and when they are 15 what is he going to be getting? I guss things have changed since my kids were ..kids. I had that problem and the parents would complain that I got them something beneath their age, but the kids loved what I gave them! I told mykids... the kids like it...why is that a problem for you? But it never got anywhere. Last year I got them each a subscription to a magazine... They liked that alot so I think that is what I will do this year. I have a quilt for each of them too.

As soon as I get done doing all my stuff for the fall craft sale I will start on Christmas. I do all my own cards and other things...last year I made a wreath out of an old book...and I love the wreath and can't wait to hang it up again....I don't have anything in mind right now...but will be searching for new ideas once Sept is past.

I usually don't do fall stuff... I never have liked Halloween and T-day... I just do "fall" theme things. But even that....might have a pumpkin somewhere and I just finished a set of 4 placemats..halloween on one side, "fall" on the other. I used tdo do so much for Christmas but not anymore. I am hoping to get an advent calender made, but not sure about that and a christmas theme quilt to use during the holiday, but have quilts I am making for gifts.. so that comes first.

Yes! I'm working on a combination of different crafts. I really need to finish some! I really love the idea of doing reversible placemats with different holidays on either side! I'm crocheting fall/ thanksgiving ones now. In the future I'd like to make some for other holidays. Have you thought about an ornament decorating night with grandkids? It would even give parents time to wrap if they don't want to attend
