A Bad Habit Diet.

There is a Hebrew proverb that says: He who eats till he is sick, must fast till he is well. I believe this has to do with a lot more than food. Perhaps it’s time to take a good look at the behaviors we are indulging in over and over again that are clearly not serving us. Is it time that we went go on a bad habit diet?

I'd never heard that one before, but it's very appropriate for a lot of situations. From the proverb, I understand that food in itself is not bad, but the overeating is and that's what makes one sick. Take it to another application and it's not TV in itself that's bad, but the overuse of it that makes one dull and lazy. Or shopping is not bad in itself but taken to the extreme, can ruin one's finances and crowd the house with junk, too. A close look at what we are doing should show us how this proverb applies in each of our lives. I know where it applies in mine!

hi, The saying is absolutely true, people tend to behave in such ways which are very disturbing to others, such people should try to mend their behavior, so that people around them will be happy. yes surely we can and we should go on a bad habit diet.

Hi riyauro, Those old proverbs are often full of wisdom and yes they often have more than one meaning. I think we are meant to give it much thought and not just look at the words themselves. Those who wrote such sayings were far ahead of their time. Thank you for contributing to this discussion. Blessings.

It's the scripture's way of saying that anything in excess is harmful. And whenever we did something in excess, we must remedy it sooner by ceasing the action leading to the condition; in this case, overeating. The bible is a fountain of lessons that we can definitely use even in our modern times. Especially in this time and age when everything is done in an instant, everything happens so fast, we forget the things that really matter most. As you said, it isn't only about food alone, but in anything we do. The bible teaches us that we must do or take everything in moderation, not to over do it, not to over use it.
