New Style in Women's Clothes, Front Zipper?

I don't necessarily keep up with women's clothing styles. But a recent photo of Vanessa Hudgens in short shorts really caught my eye not so much for the shortness of her shorts(while as a guy I did enjoy that), but for the very prominent zipper on the front. Then this morning on a local TV station the weather woman was wearing a much more sedate and appropriate skirt that also had a front zipper; it however was not quite as prominent. I have always been aware of the zippers on women's clothing(except for jeans) being on the side or back. Maybe it just took something as that stood out so much as the front zipper on Vanessa's shorts(see photo) to make me aware of a trend that has been around for some time; or maybe it is a new trend.
