Ever have to work for an anger junky?

OK I don't mind a few outbursts but this boss blows up and says some pretty mean stuff. Most of the time it's directed at his wife who works for the company as well. It's UNBELIEVABLE how these two talk to each other. It is so hard to be around and when they get finished with each other on occasion they come out at me. Luckily the job has changed to part time and things seem better and it may be cuz I have to put up with it less. I'm looking online for something so I never have to go back there and not getting anywhere. Does anyone else have to put up with this awful situation? How do you handle it?

Actually this shows a total lack of professionalism. One of the key reasons why spouses should not work for the same company is that home arguments have too much of a tendency to spill into the workplace. For your boss to be spouting about his wife shows that he has no respect for her as well. People need to leave their home problems at home. As to saying mean things to staff that also shows a lack of integrity and professionalism. Truth is people have their job to do and handle it much better if they are not in fear. How do you handle the situation? That is complex. I would try to either talk to him or his boss and see if he can modify his behaviour. Be clear this IS NOT your fault.

In the current era it is tough to find a job, but sometimes that is the best policy.

Not that this is the best way to handle it, but I just stare at them like they are completely out of their minds. Sometimes it slows them down and on occasion shuts them up. Unfortunately they own the place so there's not much to say. They're old enough to know better, I can only guess they're selfish, miserable people. The company is doing fine so I don't think they worry about clients, but they actually have been in the midst of these "discussions" while clients are sitting out in the lobby. They're way beyond unprofessional. I guess it's just up to me to go somewhere else.

Thanks it's just comforting to hear I'm not crazy - I should NOT deal with it.

Oh yes, never a good situation. Evidently those two have some serious relationship problems if they are fighting it out in public. It's embarrassing to listen to that kind of fighting and sad that it is hard to stay out of the line of fire. I would talk to their superiors if you could to see if they can be reigned in. If that isn't possible I hope you find other work. No one should have to put up with that.

Thanks for saying that no one should have to put up with that. I've been wondering why I put myself through it. We need money, but geez how much should a girl take? I vowed to myself to walk out of the office for the day if they turn on me again. I hope I have the guts when the time comes. And I wish they would take their relationship issues elsewhere, or just do us all a favor and get a divorce. I doubt they will cuz I believe they're devout Catholics. Maybe they're happy being miserable?

No but I have family who have this attitude at times. It has been mostly quiet with them but they will start up again one day I'm sure. My 45 yr old unmarried brother who still lives with his parents is the main anger junky. Can't pick family but you can pick your job, sometimes. Sending you some good luck to find a better job with a better company and less of the low life anger management type of fools running it, I feel your pain but in a different way.

Thanks so much for sending some good luck my way. I'm trying to find something, but not really looking that hard. I'm buying lottery tickets and kinda hoping the luck you sent me gets me some winnings so I don't have to struggle with that a$$ anymore.

My old job was like this, all the managers would yell at us staff. They were always negative and rude, many calling us stupid, and fat. I think those people are simple just unhappy with themselves and taking it out on others. I didnt realize, and after awhile switched to other jobs even though meaning causing more issues, and money issues for me I was a lot happier.

I'm luckier than you. But how can you bear it? Can't you change another job? As I know, most of the bossed won't do like that. What's more, there are many chances to find a job.

Yes, I have had to work for bosses who love to lose their tempers and they can be very miserable to work with. I usually ended up quitting or getting fired because I just couldn't deal with them.
