So in short, i suggest you to live life upbeat and be very cheerful. if you are happy, then you can pass your happiness to others.

I think most probably one of the solution is to visualize the situations and to think what we need to make people happy and most probably when we do it will come automatically. I think most probably when we are happy we will make others happy also. When we are sad, we cannot make others happy. So we need to make ourselves happy to make others happy.

I think you may tell him a funny story, or have a dinner with him. Or just be honesty to him. As he feels that you are honesty, he will be happy.
