Is £148 million pounds too much?

Tomorrow in Europe you have the chance to win £148 million in the euro lottery. To me this is a shocking amount of money for a possible one person to win. Would you know what to do with this amount of cash? I would travel the world with the best photographic gear and live the dream. New York in a rainy night with the city lights reflected in the puddles. The ancient overgrown cities of south America. The Australian outback. All wonderful photographic oppertunities. After buying a posh house and a lovely car and living my ambitions i am barely over 1 million! Is this a grotesque amount to give away? What would be a better use of the money? What dream would you be able to make come true?

I am not sure whether I have more expensive tastes than you, things are more expensive on average over on this side of the pond or you are underestimating the costs of things, but I suspect that you would spend a considerable amount more than one million pounds in order to do everything on your list, especially since a posh house is at least half a million dollars over here (and in most cases it is far more than that). Yes, I realize that your pound is more than our dollar, but I still think that it will cost more than you are estimating. The first thing I would do is to make sure that all the taxes were paid on the winnings, because I would not want to have to deal with tax problems in the future, especially at the rate that they compound interest. After that, I would take my family on a much deserved vacation, pay off all my bills, make sure that my children's education was paid for, and then decided what I was going to do after that.

LOL! I would spend far less on a vehicle than you would, but I would end up spending far more on a house, so you would definitely spend less than I would overall. The houses that you linked to are lovely, but you would pay far more for a house like that here, especially if you are in a "higher cost of living" state, although I guess that with that kind of money you could relocate yourself and your entire family to a state where the cost of living is less, but I think that would kind-of defeat the purpose of trying to keep the budget under one million pounds.

you would be surprised at house costings in scotland. because we live on an island they are pretty reasonable. we would be looking for a bungalow with a view, nothing to ostentatious but comfy and spacious. http://www.wmskelton.co.uk/propertysearch.php?op=mi&id=191&pl=Rothesay or http://www.buteproperty.co.uk/listman/listings/l0036.html. i reckon £80,000 would get me a smart like a nice jag, i don't want a flashy ferrari or such like as i don't want to look like one of these sad mid life crisis people. i think that should leave me approx. £600,000, enough to get some top camera gear and round the world. i guess it's all a matter of what we are prepared to spend. i want a nice house rather than one with a swimming pool etc. the only down point would be my facial reconstructive facial surgery, thats going to take it well over a million!

I based my whole career on a lottery win like that. What I do now is my plan B. All I know is that all my family and eveyone close to me would never want again

I will buy the Taj Mahal and transfer it to the moon or wait... Mars is up and coming... that seems to be a better destination Now why Taj Mahal - it is white marble and that building is deteriorating due to pollution. I hope re-locating it would be best to preserve the monument and wonder of the world... as we are not going to cut down on any pollutions here on earth.

With that kind of money I would make a few choice donations, buy a house in the northern most part of the state of Maine overlooking the ocean, a new car, and then no one would ever hear from me again. Except in mylot of course! I could lay outside, under a tree and mylot all day. And yes, I am kind of a lazy person when you come right down to it. ;-)

Actually last week the New York State Powerball lottery was worth over $250 million - the same question could be asked about that. Truth is most lotteries of such a size are won not by individuals but either a group of winners or a syndicate.

In addition to the usual house, car etc., I would definitely put a couple million into my business and build a huge building so I can not only house my company but also create an organization focusing on the community and environment. I would include a community center for the youth and maybe some transitional housing for college students who graduated recently but are at that difficult crossroad on what to do next. It would include a green house so I can grow safe, affordable food for the community and since I work in the music industry, I would create nightclub, various events, tours around the world and create a studio for my radio show/music/DJ productions. All my goals will also benefit people by creating jobs that are much needed in this current economy.
