Was there something wrong with the vault in Olympic finals?

I just think it's odd that 4 of the 8 highest qualifiers fell... I felt really bad for that Canadian girl. I remember a few years back when there was that controversy about the vault being too low. It seemed like most of the girls just were not getting the height they had in qualifying. So the question is, do you think the vault was maybe not set right?

I don't think there was anything wrong with the height of the vault. I think the reason there were more falls in the vault final was because of the increase in difficulty. The vaults the gymnasts are trying to do are harder and harder. The increased risk leads to more falls. I also think the gymnasts go for broke under the new scoring system. Many of them chunk a vault that has a high difficulty rating and hope they land on their feet. It could also be a little bit of neves. Being in the Olympic vault final is a big moment.

You are probably right. The difficulty does keep going up. I was watching some gymnastics today and they were saying that there will be point deductions on the balance beam now, when the girls are connecting they are no longer allowed to swing their arms back.... seriously, how do you get momentum otherwise. Even Nastia Lukin said agreed to that... and then they talked about how the judges score on these things, not knowing how to do them and how difficult it is.
