This is a debate topic that we frequently hear about, at least in the United States. I know that there are definitely two sides to this debate and I would really like to hear what other people think about this subject.
I will say that I have to admit that I am not against gay marriage because I am a person that firmly believes that a person is born homosexual. I believe that people that are born homosexual should be allowed to have happiness and the rights with their partner that heterosexual people are able to enjoy.
I'd love to hear other people's feelings on this subject, but I really would like to ask that we keep this discussion civil, in other words, no bashing other people's feelings.

I agree with you, it maybe bias because I am a lesbian, I have a partner for almost 4 years, and my previous relationship lasted for 11 years. Homosexual marriage as we all know is really prohibited specially here in the Philippines. and some say that the first issue here is morality but for me people don't have the authorityto judge others just because they were married as homosexual or they have relationship, I always believe that God is the only one who's going to judge us in the end.
As long as were happy with our lives there will be no problem on it. Just put God on the center of your relationship.

Though I do agree with you, I have to say that you have opened another whole can of worms here because a marriage or a relationships doesn't always have to be God centered because there are a lot of people in this world that do not believe in God or believe in a deity that is different from the God that you and I believe in.

Good luck keeping it civil.. that's hard to do when people feel passionately about something.
My feeling on the matter is whether or not gay people get married does not immediately affect me or anyone else other than themselves and their families, so it should be a private decision made by them and their families, and nobody else. I believe the government needs to stop using their power on such petty problems and move on to the more important ones like the unemployment rates, crime, national debt, poverty, economy, etc. etc.

I agree with you that the time and efforts of the governments should be toward getting rid of the emminent problems that we are dealing with right now. However, the homosexual marriage thing is taking up a lot of time.

Hi... I agree with you.. You put it rightly, that they're born homosexuals... And its not their mistake. I recently watched a movie, 'I now pronounce you Chuck & Larry'. Two guys pretend to be homosexuals, for pension money. They go through various experiences. A crowd of protesters is seen shouting, 'Gay's not the way' or something like that. Here in India, it is still thought horrible. Homosexuals are mocked at and laughed at.... Their families bear unnecessary shame too. And there are legal issues too. A few years ago, it was considered crime, officially.
I think that they should be allowed to live openly, freely and mockery of gays should be considered crime... They're humans too and have all the rights to live a normal life...

I too believe that all of the hate crimes toward homosexuals should be prosecuted. Of course, I also believe that all hate crimes should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Although the homosexual marriage is still odd for me. But I will accept to it because some people are just born to be gays or lesbians. It is painful and suffering that they can't get marriage just because of this reason. They can't do it because they live in a different world which people are not generous to accept it. In fact they don't bother others. They just want to get married with the people they love. That's it. So why we have to object it?
I love China

I completely agree with you. I firmly believe that homosexuality is genetically linked and I don't think that a person should be discriminated against because there is an abnormality in their DNA.
I mean there are no laws that will keep a person that is born with a mental disability from being able to be married when they are adults.

We have had great discussions about this in our home. Hubby feels very strongly that marriage should be between a man and a woman, let homosexuals have a similar civil union with the same rights under the law as marriage. I feel marriage is nothing but a contract between two people and the civil law. For me it can cover two or more people if all agree. We don't fight about this because I really don't care, and with Hubby I am careful to choose my fights over things I feel strongly about. Blessings

That is nice between you and your hubby.
My husband believes it should be legal, but that all PDA (public displays of affection) beyond holding hands should be illegal. I believe it should be legal, and agree about the PDA thing. I don't care much for seeing two people regardless of gender making out in the middle of the store personally.
I believe it should all be a civil union and you can either have a religious civil union or not, but at least people will stop fighting over the word "marriage".

Your parents were protecting you from the ignorant people of this world who don't understand. Who don't understand and don't want to learn. I'm sure you can understand that now as an adult. There was so much discrimination against people with Aids or HIV. I'm sure it continues till today only we don't hear about it as offen.@AidaLily (1450)

I just wanted to say thank you for being one of the few people who realize that no one wants to be discriminated against. Most of my family is religious and they go on and on about how gay people should just choose to be straight and life would be better for them.
I have yet to meet the person gay, straight, fat, skinny, etc. who wants to wake up every day and deal with people who constantly tell them they are wrong, beat them up, commit crimes against them, and so much more. Why on earth would anyone choose that?!
Sorry, for the mini rant. I just never understood why people think someone would choose to be hated and/or killed.

I do not know if the person is born homosexual, I just think it's individual's choice, and why should we stop them from being sincere to one's own choice, especially when the decision doesn't hurt anyone else? I always think we should respect each other, respect the differences, respect other's choice, same goes to homosexual marriage.

I think that this debate is being held in many countries. I hope that heterosexuals discover that homosexuals are people with as much rights as them. It seems yo me that in the US, marriage is often a religious ceremony. If that religion does not accept them, there´s not much anyone can do. I live in a country where the strongest church is the Catholic Church, yet I don´t believe in celibacy of the priests (among other things) so I stay away. But there should be a civil instance where gay couples can marry and have the same rights in the eyes of the law as heterosexual ones.

I am not talking for a debate and considering several defective on this tendency. I think the nature has its own way to regularise the life over here, may be it by wise means or though an absolute foolish methods. We know that a man getting married to a girl and the law of nature carries through them. Here with this barbaric tendency, just think of the future of the next generations. By adopting this new life pattern, any way, the population control may be reduced or cutting short by its own way and that is why I said, the nature itself handles if man does not.
Not only in US, this tendency is spreading all over and let's see the consequences after some years. It will not stop for 1 or 10 years time, if this process goes up, find what would be the level of life after 100 years. Homoism for man and women should be banned through law, and instead it has been approved by law. So, the people who engaged in it and those who support for the same will understand the impact and importance after a few years later. Any way, as long as people are not cared on who is father and/or who is mother, this topic is not at all relevant for such people.

I don't think that homosexuality is one of nature's ways of regulating the population at all.
What I do think is that in the future this discussion will be something that will be a non-discussion.
