Rating comments

Do you guys rate comments? I read in the FAQs I think about rating comments and I always make an effort to do that. Now, I know I'm not dreaming but I'll go back into the same discussion after I rated comments and there is still a + and - sign there as if I didn't rate it at all. Do you just keep rating the comment??

You still see the rating boxes after you have used them because until you reach 100 you cannot use the rating system. This is to avoid abuse of the rating system and, hopefully, to give new users time to understand how to use it correctly. Some think it is a sort of 'like' button and don't go to the FAQs to understand how it should be used. For those interested this is the link: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx#2

Thanks for clearing that up. You really are just on probation until you hit 100 here, huh? Oh well I'll get there someday ;-)

The 'probaation' for some things lasts until 500 (the copy/paste privilege for example) but it is worth the wait. It gives those users who really want to understand things here, the time to do so and then get the best out of the rest of their journey. There was a time when everyone could rate others right from the start but that led to a lot of abuse and many users saw their stars drop just because some new users had found a new toy to play with. About three years ago myLot changed things to protect users and made it so that new users have to wait.

I can pick a best response, can't I? It's odd you don't get an error message or anything, you just aren't really doing it. MysD and Lamb, you've been doing this for over three years?? it'll take me longer than that to get over 22 thousand posts!

I rate everything I read. It also helps me keep track of which discussions and responses I've read already. If I've been there before then it's rated and I know to move on. It's so easy to rate I don't know why people wouldn't.

Now that's a good point I never thought of until I've been on here awhile. I lose track of what I've read and hadn't read and kind of wished there was a way to sort it out. There ya go with a solution. Thanks. Although I still have to wait til I reach 100.

I dont think any comment are discussion is bad so if I dont like it I would rather just leave it alone . I give everyone a positive never a negative . Its hard rating a comment as bad when I dont find any comment/discussion bad .

Msdianait and The Hamb have told you all you need to know, that is, have told you where to read about it. I just want to add that when anyone of them gives you an advice about mylot you should follow. They know a lot and care for people. Happy posting and welcome.

I never make any negative comment to myLot members. And I do give positive ratings very often to those post which I think have essence and are really a good response and relevant to the discussion at hand.

Me too, it goes with what my mother always said, if you don't have something nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all

I didn't know that until I saw your post here and now I am replying to that. I voted more than 100 comments but I just got that these votes are not valid!

My friend, they are not "votes". Please read here to understand how we should be using the rating system so that when you reach 100 you will also know how to use it correctly: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx#2
