Happy Lefthander's Day!

United States
August 13, 2012 7:50am CST
Do you know anyone who is lefthanded besides President Obama, Bruce Willis, Oprah , or President Clinton , or the senior President Bush? If so wish them a Happy Lefthander's Day! I'm lefthanded and so is my sister. Back in the day , half my Pre Algebra class was lefthanded. It is great we have our own day! If you are lefthanded , remember, we are the only ones in our Right minds, lol. Enjoy the day!

"If you are lefthanded , remember, we are the only ones in our Right minds, lol." Hahaha! That is great! I love it! I'm left handed as well. However, I totally forgot we had our own day! In my defensive I only learned about it last year. By the way, I don't really pay attention to what hand people use, but I know the late Michael Landon was a lefty too. Happy mylotting!

DARN! I missed our day! I love telling everyone I'm one of the chosen few to be in my right mind. We're in really good company, aren't we? Another famous lefthander is Ross Perot; I remember that because a big deal was made of all three candidates in 1992 being lefties. Annie

Wow, I did not know there's a day for left handers... I know many people who are left handers and they do quite well. A famous Indian Cricketer and most successful captain, Saurav Ganguly is left hander too. Now, he's retired, but it was great to watch his game... 'Massive' was the only word... So why do they have this day? Is there any discrimination yet??? Gosh...

Over here for many years if a teacher noticed a child using their left hand when they stared to write, he/she would force them to learn how to write with their right hand. I believe it goes all the way to the Puritans . They thought being lefthanded was the sign of being of the devil. So for many older Americans they do every lefthanded but write. My older sister had a teacher was about to do that to my sister and my mom went to the school and told them to stop. I know if I were told I had to use my right hand I would just not write! By the time I got to school us lefties were about half of the class in my pre algebra!Do many discriminate against lefties ? The people no, the way things are made , yes. many things are made for righthanders to use.

Well, my father is left handed. Me, well, I am right handed. I guess I am not a privileged person. Boo Hoo. But I did notice some left handed people when they eat steak, they cut the meat with their left hand and then put the knife down and pick the fork up with their left hand to eat. Me, well, I cut the meat with my left hand and eat with my right. I cannot see putting a utensil down just to eat. Maybe I have a little left handed in me. Nice!!!

My sister does that. My mom who wasright handed would switch too but I put the fork in my left hand and the knife in my right and eat!Go Figure!

Well you do like I do in reverse. Nice. It makes it easier to eat with two hands instead of one.

I don't know there is a Lefthander's Day. It seems today there are really a lot of new festivals:) I don't know you are left-handed. I am right-handed and actually many Chinese are right-handed. Because parents are afraid the left-handed children will be difficult to adjust to the right-handed world. So they will let the children to change their habit since they were little. Even though, we think that left-handed persons are smarter:) Be proud of yourself and enjoy your day:) I love China

Awesome!!! I had no idea it was Lefthander's Day. I'm left handed, too. My sister was also left handed. My husband is left handed. I'm not entirely sure yet but, from what I've observed, I think my new little granddaughter (just 12 days old today) may be left handed. I woke up this morning with a very sore back (of unknown origin, maybe I slept wrong) and a sore throat so I've been trying to find a reason to be happy today and you just gave me that reason. So, THANKS for bringing this up! I'm sure there are many left handers out there who are happy to hear that we have our own special day and TODAY IS THAT DAY!!! P.S. I bought a left-handed pencil once. Honestly, it confused more people than I would have realized.

too bad i missed the day. my baby is left handed and we didn't try to change her when she was little. she is 15 and does quite well and is very smart. i actually heard somewhere that left handed people are smarter than right handed people. not sure what they based their findings on though. even though we missed the day, i try to make both my daughters feel special all year round.

Sarah, now I know why we are such great friends! I'm lefthanded too! (I love that - we're the only ones in our "right minds." lol) I'm the only leftie of six kids, and so is my dad. We always shared that "joke" with each other, if you'd call it that. It was "our thing." It was great having that bond with my dad growing up, something none of my other siblings had. (Secretly, I think I am his favorite hehe.) I didn't realize all these famous people were lefties, but I do know one other who intrigues me. Leonardo Da Vinci was also a leftie. I studied him for a day in high school, and that was a pretty neat day. It was in Literature class. We read some of his work, and then there were some pictures of his art. He was so talented. There were also some pictures of his actual handwriting. Then it came to me - he could write backwards! It was really great too. So naturally, I thought, I'm a leftie too...I should be able to do the same...and I did! I can write backwards with my left hand, and I enjoy it because - for once - I don't drag my hand through the ink or lead of what I already wrote. Normally, that part of being a leftie isn't too bad for me, but sometimes it can get on my nerves as I'm sure you completely understand! That made my day learning this about you. Great discussion, my friend. (And sorry I'm a little late on the celebration of this day haha.)

This gives me a great idea! Next August 13th, make a movie date with your Dad. Just him and you. Celebrate being lefties. It is so great to be leftie. The only thing that was a pain was those old fashioned desks that had the desk top set on the right! Here is a link to a great list of the famous lefties. www.lefthandzone.com/site/684713/page/228791

I must confess , I haven't read the whole list... yet. I knew about Morgan Freeman. I saw him write in a movie. And I that's how I found out about Judy Garland. There is a movie short where she is writing a fan letter to Clark Gable. And I Knew , Just knew Robert Redford was lefthanded. Why? In the Natural, he batted lefthanded! But the one leftie I didn't know until this year is Brando. How did i finally figure it out? By noticing that he clears the table with his left hand in Streetcar Named Desire! And he taps his chin with his left hand in the Godfather! Now I have seen both of these films many times but did I notice? No! Not until this year!

Awesome idea! It's a date. I'm putting it on the calendar right now, and when it's within a month or two, we'll start nailing down plans of what to see and so on. You're right - it's the best being lefties! I love being different. This is my way to stand out and be set apart from the norm. I hated those silly desks! I went all the way through college not even realizing they had "leftie friendly" ones that they purposefully left at the back of the classrooms because they were never used. I should've demanded to have one put in place for me in every class! Of course, a lot of my classes were at the computer, so then it didn't really matter. So many things are made for right handed people that I don't normally think about it too much, but sometimes things like that bother me! I don't like pens or pencils with a lot of writing on them because they are always upside down for me lol. Thanks for sharing the link. So interesting! All these famous people, and I had no idea they were lefties. I should've know that Mr. Einstein was a leftie. Would we expect anything less? lol Oh...and Henry Ford was a leftie. That's neat and quite significant for our family because my dad worked for Ford for over 30 years. How cool! Benjamin Franklin and Morgan Freeman?? Now that is neat. Can you tell I'm reading through the whole list now? haha Judy Garland and Bill Gates too! I had no idea Angelina Jolie was a leftie. Helen Keller...now that is special. Dennis Quaid...Julia Roberts I did know that about her at one point. Even Mark Twain! D Van D (thanks, myLot lol)...what a great list! Here's a neat statistic for you... If neither parent is left handed, their child has about a 1% chance of being left handed. If one parent is left handed, their child has only about a 19% chance of being left handed. If both parents are lefties, the child still only has a 50% chance of being left handed. Kind of cool, huh? These numbers aren't exact, but any site you look up will have around the same figures. I was reading a couple minutes ago that only 10% of the world's population are left handed. So we are a rare treat!

I'm also left handed so happy LH's day, actually i'm a little bit of an ambidextrous ( not a true one cause that's very rare),cause I can do somethings better with my right hand like using the scissors but basically my left hand is still the dominant appendage.
