Would a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight be possible at last?

I think most people would want to see Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight to see who is really the pound for pound king. This has been the most awaited fight of this century and as time goes on, the thrill is more or less getting less and less as both fighters gets nearer to their retirement stage. Wouldn't it be the best time now for these two boxers to meet while there is still high interest for their fight to happen?

hi there.
based on the latest reports from the manny pacquiao-bob arum camp, pacman's next fight won't be with mayweather. instead, they are looking at three possible opponents, bradley, marquez, and possibly miguel cotto.
there are certain challenges to each possible match-up.
for miguel cotto, it is highly unlikely that he will go down again at 147 pounds. getting an agreeable catch weight for both fighters is the main obstacle here. plus after the pounding that cotto got the last time these two fighters met, i doubt if it will generate much buzz among boxing fans.
for bradley, although it can generate a lot of buzz and interest because pacman did not win that fight in a controversial split decision, promoters are worried that it will not generate enough pay per view buys. that match between pacquiao and bradley was one of the fights with the least ppv buys and this certainly has economic impact for both fighters. after bradley's 'win' over pacquiao, i doubt if he will still settle for the 5mil pay that he earned the last time out. so from a business standpoint, this match doesn't really make sense for the boxers and boxing outfits involved.
now, let's go to the possible marquez-pacquiao match. this will be the fourth installment between these ring warriors and let me tell you that i'm a big fan of the trilogy. honestly, i can say that pacquiao won the first two matches but i think the third one was a draw at best. now, pacquiao did say and this is also supported by boxing analysts that marquez is a good fit against pacquiao's fighting style. pacquiao's main advantage back then was his speed. his power was a bonus that he had in his arsenal but it was his speed that lead him to all those previous wins. now, pacquaio ain't getting younger and he ain't getting faster. he is a step or two slower nowadays. plus, marquez, has been saying all this time that he won that last match against marquez, in fact he has a book out about it. so there is buzz and there is interest about a possible marquez-pacquiao IV plus this interest can readily translate into money by way of ticket purchases and ppv buys. also, pacquiao needs a big ticket fight to get leverage against the mayweather camp. if he ends up with a not so impressive fight next outing he might get the short end of the stick in the mayweather which for sure pacquiao doesn't want.
as for the best time for the mayweather-pacquiao fight to happen? most likely summer of 2013 is my bet.
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

I too liked the Pacquiao-Marquez trilogy because of the exciting exchanges of punches between the two. I would agree that Manny finds Marquez style difficult and hard to penetrate because of Marquez great counter-punching skills and he punch in combinations plus he punches with power. I'm not sure though if I wanted to see a fourth meeting between these two because they always end up with a close and controversial decisions, so I don't see anything different happening the next time they meet again ( except if Pacquiao manages to have full focus and determination this time to finally show a convincing win or even a knockout ).
Yes, I would agree with your analysis with the Pacquiao-Bradley fight and the Pacquiao Cotto fight.
They are the most exciting boxers of this generation and gone were the days when we only like to watch heavyweight boxing.

Is that final? I don't have problems with that because it would also be exciting but maybe Pacquiao-Cotto could be a bit more interesting or other possible fighters.

Even me, friend. I want Pacman and Pretty boy to fight. But the problem was Mayweather didn't want to fight Manny, but only fight for words.
If Mayweather, really want to fight Manny. There is no more condition or alibi to make the fight possible...

Hi aerous, I sure hope they find a way for Mayweather to want to fight Manny. That would really be the last fight I want to see Manny fight and then he could retire if he wants to...unless a Pacquiao-Mayweather Part II would be made no matter who won the first battle :D

I agree with you. I just felt that Mayweather finds Pacquiao to be a real difficult opponent for himself because he also had difficulties with left handers, so it probably more of the fear of possibly losing and tarnishing his perfect record than fearing Manny Pacquaio. His ego is too big that he doesn't want to risk the possibly humiliation.

It will be next year if the two best pound for pound fighters will agree. This is a long awaited much around the world. I do not want to heard Mayweather trash talking during boxing match. Manny Pacquaio should be wise during Maywether's fight. Pacquiao should be serious in training and forgot the word of God. Just think Floyd Mayweather. Both are very good speed and tactics. I hope the match will be happen.

Hi,
Sometime ago, I used to anticipate the fight but what happened lately put an end to my enthusiasm.
I feel I have been fooled all along, what with the rigging of the results to take the best advantage of the promoters to get the most money from the event. Now I don't really care if Pacquiao win or lose, I'll have to stay in front of my TV set and go to sleep if I have nothing better to do than watch the whole mindless shenanigan. Just a waste of time really.

This will not occur as long as Mayweather is still Gayweather!
It is only Mayweather who is dodging the fight against Pacquiao. I sure hope this fight will happen.

I wish that too, AgentGulaman. If that fight ever happens, I will be happy if Manny would already retire if he wins. Now if he loses in a close match, I would rather have him fight Roger once again for a rematch for his last and final fight before he retires.

that would be difficult to for both of them to meet in the ring many factors are being discussed on that fight and for now Pacquiao possibly have rematch on the last fight.etc. and for Mayweather is at jail for now :D, 2-3 years i think they will meet at the ring if Pacquiao will not retire from boxing.

Yes I think anything is always possible especially that so many people still wanted to see this fight happening. I think the greatest factor has to be Mayweather's mindset...I think for the first time in his life, there is an opponent for him that he himself is not sure if he can handle or not, so the possible fear of losing might be too strong for him to handle( I would say he would still be the slight favorite from the experts going into the fight ).
Anyway, the fight would still be very exciting with the fact that people wanted to see who is really the pound for pound king and if Mayweather really can really outpoint Pacquiao or if Pacquaio's barrage of combinations would be enough to stun or even knockout Mayweather...at this stage the knockout might be much less likely to happen. Anyway, let's see if Manny's last two or three fights would include Mayweather...who knows, as I said anything is possible :)

by the style of Mayweather's the combination of Pacquiao would be not effective as do know out as we always heard and even see. Mayweather stands in marquez and yet pacquiao have difficulty to fight marquez. people may see pacquiao know out in other opp. but with Mayweather we can tell with it.

That's what many experts say too, that Pacquaio's style is made for Mayweather and that Mayweather would simply outpoint Manny. Other experts say though that Mayweather have difficulty with left handers and Manny is the best left hander boxers today or ever, and some experts think that Manny's continuous combinations of punches would somehow end up cornering Mayweather and Roger would be punished with barrages of punches. Anyway, due to Roger's defensive genius skills it may not be so and due to Manny's lack of hunger in boxing in his last few fights and his lack of impressiveness in his last two or three fights, the favor should definitely be with Roger Mayweather. These uncertainties still makes a lot of boxing fans wonder with excitement what would really happen when these two meet in the ring. Because no mater what experts says, unpredictable things happen when two great fighters meet up and a lot of experts are shocked with results they never expected. Let's hope that somehow this fight would happen this December 2012 as a Christmas present for everyone :D
