Whose portrayal of John Carter in the E.R. TV Series this discussion is about... -It's Taylor Kitsch's Character in the Movie John Carter OF MARS I'm interested in here. (Minor Movie Loving Rant Follows..You have been warned..) I posted a discussion on this Movie before it premiered earlier this Year,Thinking a Movie based on what is arguably a Grandaddy of SciFi Stories written by Edgar Rice Burroughs (Also Creator of Tarzan) OVER A CENTURY AGO (The Movie premiered in time for the Centenary of the publication of the stories when they were new in 1912!) was going to hit big.. But It's like as if the movie tripped coming out of the starting gate and faceplanted instead..The Studio (Disney) went with the premise that in the course of the Movie, the Character visits Mars, but the Link to the planet only gets decided at the end of the Movie,so the "OF MARS" bit was only sprung on the Audience as a reveal at the very end as the credits started to roll..and so,despite the Original stories having ALL had Mars related titles,Studio research decided to hold back..so they cut all reference to "Mars" from the Advertising.. I can see their point if audience research indicated "Mars" was a turnoff, but at the same time,Just having the Character's Name on the poster gave NOTHING to those who might not have heard of the Stories, their history,or their influence on almost every other action/scifi/fantasy movie in the Last HUNDRED Years..! From the limited Audience Numbers,I heard it was an enjoyable Date Movie, and I personally enjoyed the couple of Showings I went to.. and more recently,I'm hearing it's one of the top ranking Movies being pirated and downloaded.. So,what I wanted to ask is,is there anything you might have heard since that might have sparked your interest in going to see this Movie knowing a little more of it's history,(Assuming you didn't go!) or if You DID,what could have got more people in to see it?

I wanted to go, but "things" conspired to keep me FROM going. However, I DID want to go and I have bought the movie and I've watched it twice. Once with Maggiepie and once with my guy friend "J". I'll admit I've never read the books, I read a LOT of Tarzan books and all the Earth's Core books, but the one Mars book I tried, I just couldn't get into. That being said, I really enjoyed the movie. I think I'd've loved to see it on the big screen, but I did see Dark Shadows on it - twice, so I can't complain too much.

I see the DVD is on sale here at present, but what I'd reaally like to get would be a director's cut..apparently,even at the length it was, there was still a lot of story cut out from the screened version..

Since they kind of jammed 2 books into 1 movie and most of the plot was The Princess of Mars rather than the first book... I thought the movie held together...

I think they did ok with the story, though that travelling mining city had me wondering..and the motives of the Therns could have done with some more time..I thought the Principals had good Chemistry..I went to see "Avatar" many times in both 2D and 3D,and even IMAX,and some story elements didn't sit well with Me..While JCoM for Me was a fun ride all the way through.
