Scents alive!

I used to make and sell candles at craft shows and what not. I got too busy at one point and had no room to keep my items I made with a tiny home and so many kids. Lately I was thinking of starting it back up though. I really enjoyed making the candles and after making a few for around the house I realized I really missed making them. I went on to a sight to purchase some new scents to try out and wow there are so many new scents out there! I like the home type smells like apple pie or pumpkin spice. Should I stick with those scents or give more of a variety?

I would love to make candles that have nice scents in, but would not know really where to start. I like the same scents as you, also I like the flower scents that we can get in candles.Candles have got a lot better over the years with all different manners of smells as well as cheap to buy.

They are not hard to do. First I would buy a kit from a craft store to make sure it is a hobby you would like to do as it is at first costly to do, buying molds and what not but you use them over and over again.

I think that you should most certainly stick with what you like. If you love something it is easier for you to sell it to your audience. You will attract to you people who love what you do. Think about it, 7 billion people in the world, there is bound to be a market for the things that you love. :) Good luck with your business venture.

Thanks and I am sure I will find plenty who will like them.

I know what you mean, but I would realize that some people like other smells. Fall is coming right up, so apple or pumpkin work well now, but you might try ginger bread and peppermint around Christmas. If you can find a pine one for then and the rest of winter would be good. Spring could be spring type flowers and summer more flowers. However, if you like a scent, keep that one around as well

I always have on hand an apple spice, punpkin maple and bannana bread as they are our favorites for around the house.

I would say for right now during this season those smells are perfect for the holidays! Go with them and then branch out if they sell. I agree there are so many new scents out. I have not made candles in a while. I need to buy another kit. Enjoy your new business!

I will. I also started dipping led candles. They don't get hot enough to even make the wax soft so they look all rustic and have a scent.

It might be smart to try and center on a certain type like "household" as you said. That way you can specialize in it and have your own niche in the market. Although I would say go with what you most enjoy because when you have a hobby you always want to make the most of it for your enjoyment. I hope that this will come more easily for you without the frustrations and things that halted you in the past. Enjoy it!

It was just to much a few years ago with everything going on with the girls and no room. I loved doing it. I made good money too just didn't have the time to work at it.

I love scented candles! I have them throughout my house. I like the ones that you can smell even when your not burning them. I would love to know how to make candles. If it were me, I would try a variety of scents. I might not make as many at once of the ones I wasn't sure about, but I would give them a shot anyway. I smelled a blueberry muffin candle recently that made my tummy growl..lol...unique.
