I was on my way to my work this morning when I came across with this group of boy scouts and girl scouts who are holding a tree planting efforts along a busy road in our city. It is nice to see little kids doing such efforts which can help minimize floods and save our environment. Our city was one of the cities that were greatly affected by the intense rain and floods the past weeks so I hope to see more people participating in this kind of efforts. I am more than willing to help. Maybe we can start helping by planting even a single tree within our areas.
Have you also seen some kids doing such efforts in your city?
What efforts have you done so far to help in saving our environment and prevent floods? Are you thinking of organizing a group to do the same activity within your community?
Thank you.

We don´t have floods in our area. Nature gives us earthquakes instead. But whenever I read of the amount of trees that are cut by men, I shiver. I know for sure that floods and avalanches are the result of tree cutting. In our city, even if it´s nothing serious, when we have the last rains of Winter, we have snow run down from the mountains. That rain used to be used to have better crops. Now all is cement and buildings and the raid does not have a bit of earth where to drain

You are so right with your observation marguicha. There is this one village in our area that was never experienced flood ever. But after a big supermarket was built near the area, when the heavy rains came, the village was flooded. It was the first time they have experienced that. Upon investigation, it was discovered that some of the waterways were previously covered by soil so that they will have the land to build the supermarket.

I think I've done this once in my grade school year. Doing the Boy Scout thing and plant a tree in a deforested hill. That was some 30 years ago and I think the trees that we had planted there were now replaced three or four times already since every five years or so, people will cut those trees for lumber. And we new generation scouts will plant an new trees.

I have also experience planting trees during my elementary days. They say that ipil ipil grows faster. It is sad that people had to cut down trees. I thought that they only pick up dried woods to make fire. I hope that our scouts will make this efforts doubled and that all people would do the same. Thank you.

That's nice, think we should replant faster than we can cut them down and consider the time for the trees to mature, go ahead start something like that and I'd be the first one to join your group, I think a good idea is to plant lots of saplings in scrap tin cans or plastic then give it away to people who want it or are willing to plant. Our city was one of the least hit by the flooding ( by God's grace)among the cities in metro Manila, think it's because we still have lots of trees and open spaces where water can seep in instead of concrete, we also dredge our creeks and rivers during summer and not when there is already a typhoon.

Thanks for sharing. I really hope that I can make such initiative since it can really help our people. You are very right with your suggestion of planting lots of saplings and seedlings in tin cans or plastic. I am sure that every home has plastic and cans.

Tree planting is been a part of our project in school when I was in high school. During that time i still don't realized how big i am doing to help mother nature until such successive floods happen in the capital of our country. This time i found out that single tree i planted before was a great help now.And it's such a great feeling you know you help our environment though not much.

That is true. If every one of us would plant a single tree each, that would really makes a big difference. I hope that more students in all levels would do the same. Thank you.

That's great! Hopefully a lot of people will encourage to plant more trees. I remember when I was in elementary our school teacher encouraged us to plant trees for future generation. And for many years now I can't imagine that the trees that I planted before has grown up now....:)

I have noticed that most of us have experience planting trees only during our elementary days. I wonder why high schools and colleges don't make such initiative. I hope that this should be done at least twice a year. I am living in a mountainous area and every time I would passed by in other areas nearby wherein lands are being flattened to become a subdivisions, I can't help but wonder what happened to those animals living on those trees that they cut down. No wonder why we can sometimes find big snakes in some big establishments in the city.
Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, it is really nice to see that. We have Planting Day in our country, it is on March, 12. Every year on that day, schools and companies organize people to plant trees. My daughter planted a tree last year with her classmates, she felt so happy for that, and she often visits that tree even now. It's helpful for our environment. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your response. It is good to know that your country has this annual Planting Day activity. I hope that all countries would do the same. It is also good that children at their young age are being thought how to care for our environment. I am sure that when they grow up, they will also thought their kids to do good things for our environment.

It is good to know that you are making efforts to help our environment. Proper waste disposal is very important as well as recycling items that can be of use again. I no longer see much trees within the city so it is good that you exert effort to have some plants at home. Plants and flowers can really make us feel relax. Thank you for sharing.
