I just had to get a bag of chips today and ended up with a migraine, why?

I usually have low blood pressure and I am told to have salt on my food to bring it up. I tend to have rice, cheese or chips. Today for some reason, I had a migraine from it. Is there a medical reason for this or am I just having a bad day. It has happened before when I have had too much salt but today I didn't, I just had a small bag of chips. Maybe my blood pressure was high already from adding salt on my diet and I should lessen my salt intake. Has this happened to anyone else, I don't see my doctor until next week and I would love some advice from others with this experience. Thank you.

Did you check the chips for MSG? That can cause the same symptoms as you had as well.

I haven't checked it for MSG, it was Lay's original potato chips.I have to research some more about this. I have been with migraines for other reasons to and only on one side so maybe it is a new trigger and should change my diet concerning salt.Thank you for your comment.

A friend of mine would usually have a migraine when she's eating chips or chocolates... she also has a low blood pressure and lacks in Iron. But normally it is her UTI also that makes her migraine attack. I am not sure if these are connected in anyway... but that is what usually happens to her. So most of the time she controls eating those. I think it is better you ask for your doctor's advise - and stay away from salty foods.

I haven't had a UTI. Chocolate is usually a cure due to the caffeine content. I also lack in Iron and take supplemental vitamins. I just have to curb my chip appetite from now on. Thank you for your comment. :)

was it a different brand that you tried? perhaps the bad had some extra msg or something else that triggered your migraines. what usually causes them? it could be a new trigger.

It was the original. It was extra salty. IT was extra greasy! So I should just stick with baked instead. Maybe that's why I had a migraine. I am craving them again but I will go for baked and see what happens. Thanks for the comment.

I think you should have a balance meal always. Raising your blood pressure by taking in salty foods may also shoot up your blood pressure. About your migraine, may it's just tension head ache, or some kind of simple headache. Migraine is usually triggered by eating chocolates, drinking coffee, overexposure to sunlight and, etc. Migraine also lasts for several days. Assess yourself for this. Have you had a good sleep? Is it 6 to 8 hours? Have you been thinking of problems lately? You should have your BP monitored always.
