Is taking care for a dog really a hassle?

Shih Tzu, one of the most affectionate dogs - I had a Shih Tzu once but missed him due to an infection that the vet could do nothing about.

For years, I have taken care of dogs form their puppy to adult stages and already, I have witnessed three of them that died of old age. I was in tears especially when my Shih Tzu had to be injected with to end her agony due to an infection within her throat as the vet had lost all hope. She was the most affectionate dog I ever had and kept her indoors. When she was still a pup, I had had hard times training her to pee and poop only outside the house. She did learn and at times when we live her alone, she does her thing in the bathroom right at the floor drain making it easy to clean. Up to this time there are moments when the memories of her come back especially when I see her picture.

Taking care of a dog is a really pleasure. It is curious how yesterday I was asked by an old lady if it is difficult to take care of a dog. I answered her the same thing: it is not a chore, it is nothing but a pleasure. I know how much you suffer when you loose a dog. My friend's dog had to be put to sleep three years ago and we still suffer.

What a beautiful dog. Whether it's a dog, a cat, a rabbit, a bird or any other type of pet, I really must say that NO, it is not a hassle taking care of them. My husband and I have multiple cats and even though it's a lot of responsibility, it's never a hassle. It's always a joy. Yes, I know that they can make messes and it does take time to clean up after them but the delight and love that they give in return cannot possibly be measured. Do you want to know what the hassle is? Taking care of some people. I'm talking about the people that are too stubborn and selfish for my own good. Trying to take care of them because you know what's best for them is a real hassle when they want to do things their own way. Believe me, I know. O.K. now that's another discussion. Pets are a pleasure not a hassle.
