i'll most likely ditch the cinemas and start watching movies online

more often now. with the prices of movie ticket prices going up as well as raking up additional expenses when watching movies (transpo expenses, parking fee if you bring your car, popcorn and drinks during the movie, eating out, yadda yadda yadda, you get my drift), i'll most likely stay at home and watch movies instead online. there are tons of websites that offer movie streaming for free. most are updated and the quality really ain't that bad. i must admit that watching in movie houses is an experience in itself but when you are penny pinching like me, every facet wherein you can save counts. anyway, so far this has worked for me and i was able to watch a good amount of recent movies online at home. plus, i've discovered a whole range of other movies that are good that i'd normally not watch at movie houses. so my fellow mylotters, what's your experience with watching movies online? what sites do you frequent for this activity? please do share and do chime in! cheers and happy mylotting!!!

I very rarely go to the cinema anymore. The prices are ridiculous and there are not that many movies that I am so excited about that I will go. I have Netflix and an option on my cable that is called On-Demand. It is a channel you go and if you are paying for a certain station, you can choose to watch any movie playing on it anytime you want. I usually just do that. I am not much to watch movies on the computer though. I stream it to the TV.

hi jenintn. i'm on the same boat as you as i rarely go to the cinema anymore. good that you have netflix and on-demand. for sure, you have lots of fun watching movies anytime you want. not sure if that service is available with my new cable provider, most of what i've seen are 'premium' channels. anyway, perhaps it is time to call and ask them. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

i don't do that very often but i do get a lot of movies for free from the library and although they might not be the absolute latest, quite often they are pretty close.

hi cher. not sure if the libraries here in our country keep dvds of movies for their users to borrow. we do have shops that rent out dvds. i don't really patronize those shops myself and instead purchase bootleg dvds. i also borrow dvds from friends and realtives, so much cheaper that way. with the online sites showing movies, i can watch recent ones. the stream may not be the best quality but it is good considering that it is free. thanks for participating and happy mylotting cher913!!!

I totally agree Allen, I can't even remember when was the last time I came to a movie house. I'm really hooked watching online I also downloaded movies and with subtitles too. I also watch live streaming in some local channels here in our country I can save lots of electric while watching on my laptop while working. As you can see half of the program we watch is almost commercial and while the program is on commercial I'm here on mylot is it good to save lots of money while watching a movie or local programs in our laptop?

Allen, Allen! I was about to invite you out on a movie date and now this. I don't watch movies online, I download them, attach the USB or HDD on my tv and enjoy the surround system with popcorn on my lap. And that's at the very convenience of my very own home for free! I use torrent site sometimes. There's this private site that my Romanian friend gave me where I could download whatever I want free of leeches and hassles. Not sure if I could invite you though.

a movie date with a goddess sounds nice. pick a number though as i have invitations to red carpet premiers left and right. i never really was a fan of downloading movies. if i can find the full movie in youtube, i'm happy. of course, not all movies are in youttube so that's what these sites are for. leeches and hassles... just found my new favorite term for problems in life. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

hi natliegleb. back then, cinemas were the most affordable way to have fun and to be entertained. times have changed though and it really is expensive to watch a movie nowadays. really can't remember the last movie i watched at a cinema, i think it was 'avengers' and i watched it with my daughter. thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

With the price of going to the movies on the up,over the last few years I have found it easier and cheaper(ie free)to watch the latest movies on line or download them and watch while traveling to and from work and on breaks. There has been many movies that I have been locking forward to seeing, only to be rally disappointed once I have seen it and if I had paid would be even more disappointed.sometimes feel bad about downloading films but it is so easy.I belive that if there was a way that you could download the latest films without paying so much for them or even free and part of your monthly broadbent bill money was paid back to the movie industry this may stop or slow down the pirate sites and stop the entertainment industry banging on about how much they lose to on line pirates.the way we all enjoy entertainment is changing so much and something needs to change for the better.

hi michaels1966. first off, welcome to mylot. stick by the rules and regulations of the sites and you'll enjoy your stay here. for any questions or clarifications, feel free to chat with the site admin or even the more tenured mylotters and you'll find out that the mylot community is a very helpful one. back to the discussion on hand, yes, movie ticket prices have increased a lot over the past few years. back then, i remember watching movies twice or even three times a week. i also attend a lot of premiers and by invite only screenings. i also watch a lot of movie festivals. however, ticket prices have soared higher than what i am willing to part with so i decided to look for alternatives. first, it was boot legged dvds but that also entailed a cost. then i discovered online movies and i knew right then and there that this option was the best for me. you raised a very valid point although i doubt how the film industry and the internet sites can have a work out a way to equally divide the profit among them. of course, they have to consider the amount that they will offer these download packages to consumers as one of the main reasons why consumers download films is because of the low cost. anyway, thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

I have not been to a cinema in almost 10 years!! as far as I am concerned, if I watch movies at home on netflix, on TV, or on DVD, I will save money. I can eat my own popcorn, I can watch them when I want, I don't have to worry about transportation, I don't even have to wear clothes, if I don't want to!!!

Movie tickets are really expensive. I have the same opinion as you. I like watching movies at home online, because it is free, and also it saves me much time to do some other things. So many free movies are enough for me to watch .So I seldom go to the cinema. Thanks for sharing! Have a nice day!

hi caopaopao. yup, movie tickets are really expensive. add the other expenses, like food and drinks, and you'd probably spend a couple hundreds perhaps thousands to really have a good time. with movies being added online, i can watch the newest releases even older movies that i miss. thanks for participating and happy mylotting!!!

I prefer watching online because i can watch every single movies i love and that'sr cheaper than i should go to cinema. Cinema maybe has great theater, great sound and great television, that's big and sometimes they have 3D movie and my television hasn't but i still prefer watch in my house. I can eat my popcorn and sitting in my lovely sofa. it's good and i love that. just turn off my light and watch online from my computer. i don't afraid with traffic jam and get heat or cold from outside, but i still prefer download than just watch only. hmmm .. i think i usually use ganool.com or mediafire4u.com they have a lot great movie with Blueray system. i love that ^__^

hi redtesha. first off, welcome to mylot. stick by the site's rules and regulations and you will do fine. for any questions or clarifications, please feel free to contact the site admin or the more tenured mylotters and you will find out that the mylot community is a very helpful one. back to the discussion, you are correct, most cinemas offer better amenities like comfortable seats, bigger screens, and better sound systems. however, nothing beats the comfort of watching movies online in the comfort and privacy of one's own home. i'll check out the sites that you mentioned. thanks for sharing. cheers and happy mylotting!!!
