Cat's Pillows

So I buy my cat a humongous soft blue pillow from at the estate sales today and she thinks it's too soft to lay on, augh. Cats...LOL. I think she's just not used to it yet. I did rearrange her sleep area on the porch and now the foam box she always likes to sit on on the right side is closer to the window and won't flip over if she happens to jump on it too hard. And I took some other pillows and a towel for a cover and put them over on the left where she's been sleeping most often and she loves it there. It is soft and comfy for her. How can I get her used to this huge new pillow, though? Do you think I might find her on it tomorrow after I wake up? Should I try to stuff it more with some somewhat heavier materials that don't feel so "squishy soft"?

My cats fall in love with new cat beds or pillows very quickly-- I spray them with catnip spray. I have also rubbed the surface hard with dry cat food before-- it sounds weird, but it worked with one of my three cats. The catnip works even better. Another thing that works is safety pinning my cat's favorite blanket around the pillow as a pillow cover. One of our previous cats would only sleep on MY pillow-- so I took one of my dirty pillowcases and put it on her pillow. That would work for a few days, until my smell wore off-- then I'd put a different used pillow case on LOL.
let us know if the tricks work on your cat, or if my cats are just weird!

what a wonderful idea, catnip spray. the only problem is my silly cat doesn't care for some types of catnip. she will only play with it if she feels like it and not on a moment's notice like most cats lol. that is also a good idea with the dry food and blanket. your cats are not wierd, that was brilliant how you thought of those things!

Fatters opens the Pringles cans easitly, actually. First, she knocks it down, then she wraps her front and back legs around it. She uses her teeth to get the plastic lid off, and if the safety seal is still on, she rips it up with her teeth. Then she leaves the can laying on it's side and uses her paw to pull out chips. It is hilarious... if I has a camera I would film it and send it to pringles, maybe they'd buy her chips LOL
She will also drink apple cider vinegar-- the vet has tested her for everything, and he says there's nothing wrong with her-- she just has this thing for vinegar and salt. He thinks she's weird too. She also likes tomatoes. I TOLD you my cats were weird!!
Yep, we named sneakers because of her sneaker thing. Fatters got her name because she was a shelter cat, named Holly, but she just looks at you and stops purring if you call her that. When we first bought home Pixel, she would eat all the food, so she got fat-- and when my son called her fatters, she purred, so we stuck with it.
Pixel got his name from a Robert Heinlein cat that is a flame colored tabby like him. The Pixel in Heinlein's books walks through walls-- mine doesn't do that, but he just kind of pops up totally unexpectedly like he wasn't even there a minute before, so my other son called him Pixel. It's funny because a Pixel is very small-- but Pixel the cat is BIG. He is about 15 pounds, and he's not fat at all-- he's just a big cat. His eyes are pumpkin colored too, so he's a beauty. Fatters is a gray striped tabby with green eyes, and sneakers is a white calico with big brown eyes.
I will probably end up getting a collie for the farm, because it's a good idea to have a working dog on a farm-- but working dogs live in the barn, and don't come inside. They aren't pets-- I see no point in a dog that does nothing. A neighbor has a dog she treats like a big baby, it sleeps on her bed and everything-- her house, her clothes and her car always smell like DOG. Yuck!!! My cats are all inside cats, but out house doesn't smell. Dogs that don't work are a waste of space-- Cats, on the other hand, are people with fur ;-)

Haha, that is all hilarious about the wierdness of your cats. I especially liked the story with the dry turd in the person's shoe if she doesn't like them, that is too funny. It made me LOL. She can open the cans of the Pringles? You should get that on youtube one day, it should be a fun show.
Yes cats can be teritorial abuot where they sleep, Fatters knows where it's most comfy and who she favors most in the house. Sneakers has the appropriate name I think! I would guess thats how you gave him/her the name? Too cute.Awe, Pixel is almost like a human when he uses the bed to sleep if he is sick. Then you know he isn't feeling well for sure, huh? Drags the pillows out to tease Fatters, OMG they are a riot. I'd love to see them chase each other and play after that.
I keep reading on and on and every sentence has something cute about it about your cats, they have so many of their own traits. She only likes dark colors, I'm rolling here, can't help it but your cats are funny as all heck. I only have one cat, and I agree I can't understand why some people only like dogs when alot of cats have different personalities, you cannot judge them on just one cat they have seen in their life. My cat doesn't tease anyone, she will just come around them if she feels like it, she gets scared alot when someone knocks or rings the bell though at first. And will hide for awhile.
Oh I tried the cat grass ( I have it grown in a small pot for her on a daily basis as needed usually) and she slowly walked on the pillow today. Then i started to brush her and I thought she was starting to get used to it, then she got up and moved over to the side of it on the other cushion so she is still not "getting it" with the new pillow. I think I can try to coax her though eventually. I think it just feels way too soft.
Thanks for making me laugh so much with the cat stories, I really liked hearing about them!

My youngest cat thinks that I'm his pillow. Particularly my back, shoulders, or boobies. Gah!

Ha! Yes they often do that. I only had maybe 1-2 lap cats before, the others were not into laying on my lap. My current one won't even sleep by my pillow, she prefers to sleep at the foot of the bed. But I don't like the fact she does cause I can kick her accidentally and probably have.

Your boobies? LOL

Yup.
When he was a tiny kitten, he used to crawl on top of my head/face when I would try to sleep, curl up, and go to sleep himself... lol

Yes, one of my friends on FB now says her cat likes to sleep at her head at night. I have no idea how that is comfortable but she says she has insomnia issues sometimes so I will probably tease her next time and tell her to remove the cat first and see if she can sleep then.

Kitties can be so temperamental about some things. My granddaughter was always buying her kitty some new kitty toy but the kitty wouldn't play with them. She like those hair rings and the pop lids from the cardboard cartons of juice drinks.
She finely learned her lesson about buying the kitty any toys or beds/. She saw a cut pirate boat shaped cloth house. It had a pirates flag and everything. The cat liked it so well she went right in and peed in it. So it went to the garbage and my granddaughter stopped buying any hing for her to sleep on or to play with..

That sounds like my mom, I finally got her to stop buying so many toys as they were just sitting there. Too funny about the pirate boat house but not funny either, I bet she was devastated when the cat peed in it. I feel bad for her. Cats do love the simplest kinds of toys, mine prefers a paper bag, a cardboard box to sleep in and a large piece of shoelace, amoung maybe a few stuffed animals once in a great while to play with.

You could take a t-shirt that you've worn and put that in her bed. Sometimes if something smells like you they like it. I had a friend who's daughter went away to college and the cat really missed her. My friend didn't want the cat on her own bed so I told her that when her daughter comes home with her laundry (don't they always?) to take a pair of her pajamas and don't wash them, just put them on her daughter's bed. She did and the cat was happy and slept on the pj's after that. He was happy with the scent of her daughter.

That is a good idea, I never thought of it. Maybe it will work. Its just the feel of the softness of the pillow she hates, cause i could tell by her overall body language when she stepped onto it at first. It was like "WTH is this? Get me off of it now!" LOL I am sure the cats have a scent issue with clothes that have been worn, I agree. i never have tried that though. Thanks!

I think cats kind of figure you work for them so the cat will decide on her own time if she likes it. I don't think it could be too soft for her, she'll love it unless it smells like some other animal and even then she'll make her way to it.
