try to lower the carbohydrate intake since it will be turned into sugar if not converted to energy. Also, reduce your sugar intake and drink lots of water to flush out excess sugar. Also, is you are smoker, try to remove that since one common complication that smoking gives. Like my father who happens to erraticlly changes blood sugar though we don't have such in our family. This is erhaps due to smoking and drinking.

One good thing about me is that I'm not a smoker nor a drinker. Anyway, I feel drinking lots of water is another important factor in the whole plan. They could flush a lot of unhealthy stuff in our bodies, so I plan now to always have a big water container beside my computer where most of my time is spent :)

Do you mean water on your side? Yes it is better to have it than softdrinks or any iced beverages. There's nothing more effective in cleaning out our system than ordinary water.

Hi Better, nowadays i am eating less sweet food and drink. I am trying my best as to be able to avoid having this diabetes symptom as much as possible. My mother had diabetes since a few years ago. Since from that day onwards, we are eating less sweet food and drinks. Besides that, we are eating more on veggies and fruits, since it is much better for our health. Not forgetting, need to have balanced exercise in our daily life as well.

Those would be excellent advice for those wanting to avoid diabetes. I guess for most people, it is easier said than done but if one is motivated enough to be healthy and avoid this disease, then he would have the necessary inertia start exercising and buying vegetables in the market. I'm actually talking to myself now :)

I think it is important to have a healthy lifestyle. Such as you shall often do some exercises. Besides, you should pay attention to your diet. And keep a normal weight. At least these methods can be helpful for you to avoid having the diabetes.

Yes, thanks youless. These are really important tips and I usually base my right weight by looking at my tummy. The more bulge I see in my stomach, I immediately know that the more overweight I am and the more pounds I needed to lose. The moment I see my stomach flat, that is the time I would say I am in much better health having the ideal weight without the stomach bulge. The next step for better health would then to try to get the six pack in my stomach. I know that would take a lot of work...hmmm, if only I could only buy six pack in a store, that would make everything easier ;D

Just because there is a family history does not guarantee that you will have diabetes. Just try to live a healthy lifestyle by eating a balanced diet, low carbohydrates, exercise as much as possible and most probably you will be able to keep off from diabetes.

I also do not believe in the certainty of acquiring the disease of your parents genetically. Every individual have the capacity to avoid the disease his direct family is prone to. If only I could follow these two important facts: exercise and right diet, then I know I could easily prevent diabetes. Getting the motivation to follow these two aspects should be my most important goal now.

It needs money to become healthy. hehehe. In your case, you can avoid being diabetic by consuming organic foods. Organic foods are natural and it has no sugar content. Simplest way I know to lessen sugar intake is eat brown rice instead of white rice.

Yes, I have heard about brown rice being a healthier option than white rice but I didn't know the reason for that is due to their sugar content. It's probably similar to the comparison of the ordinary bread and wheat bread.

Thanks for pointing that out, Shavkat. My father is diabetic so there is a chance I could transmit that, but by positive thinking I will discard that thought from my mind
I also consume a moderate amount of sugar coming from the softdrinks I buy almost on a daily basis, so I will just exercise to burn them off.

hi BetterDays4me type two diabetes typically hits in middle aged women who are pretty much overweight so the best way to aviod'the diseased is to stay at normal weight, if overweight loose the excess weight. too many fat cells impede insulin from getting the sugar into the muscle cells where its needed and instead dumps tje sujgar into our blood stream where it is not needed c ausing diabetes. so stay slim and eat healthy for your heart's sakes no overwight and specially not any obesity at all.that is he main cause of diabetes. it can be avoided if ypu stay slim and are healthy. get exercise and do not over eat.

Thanks for this important insight, Hatley. I never realize ones weight has such a crucial part in avoiding diabetes. I would now then be more motivated to exercise more and try to be as slim as possible. I wonder now if there are slim men and women who are diabetic and if most fat men and women are diabetic...

Hi,
I gained a lot of knowledge about this from reading the different responses here. My parents are both diabetic and I am worried about getting it in future as the doctor told me to be careful. As per the doctor's instructions I have been exercising regularly for at least 30 minutes to shed off the extra weight I have gained in the few months I spent at home ever since I passed my post graduation. Now my classes have begun and I am hoping to shed weight rapidly due to not being on the computer for long too and mostly being active during the day. I have been avoiding soft drinks, colas and sweets deliberately and controlling my temptation to indulge in pastries too. I told myself that I had enjoyed all of these in my teenage and now if I want to live happily for the rest of my life, I must be careful. Hope we can both escape this disease. Good luck

Hi oindy,
Good luck to your pursuit to good health! I find fruits to be great replacements for softdrinks ( I do this in the past, and remembering it now I would want to eat fruits again to remove my cravings for softdrinks ). I sometimes makes real fruit juices, and I remember my father recommended to me to drink apple juice which would be another great replacement drink. I would buy one soon. Yes, good luck to both of us :)
