Pita

A friend of mine got me thinking about eating pita. She had mentioned making chicken salad with cherries and nuts stuffed in pita bread. I did something similar the other day except with some diced chicken, mayo, and cucumbers. That seems pretty good. Just wondering what else is good to put in pita's aside from "salad" type foods?

I have heard of taco pitas. I haven't tried them but I think it would be great because I love tacos. I like taco salad and lots of combinations for the taco flavor so I think I would like this. Maybe you should try it and tell me if it is good!

You can make a pizza out of it.

My mom used to make a lot of pita sandwiches for my sister and I when we were going to school. It's a lot healthier than regular bread. You could try hummus, in a light spread on the inside. Or you could put salad ingredients inside the bread: lettuce, tomatoes, bacon bits, carrot slices..whatever you would. I KNOW you said no salad. But I was thinking you meant no egg salad, chicken salad or tuna salad. How many people actually put legit salad stuff into a pita.

I used to work for a greek restaurant. It was usually Tzaziki I'd put in Pita Bread, that and Chicken. So yeah I guess I'm not too original. Maybe saute' some onions, put some chicken, tomatoes and tzaziki?

I would use it for veggie, tempeh or salmon burgers. I'm thinking salmon burgers with mayo, slices of cucumber, red pepper and sprouts would be a delicious and healthy lunch. Pulled seitan or sloppy joes (in my case, "veggie joes" made with crumbled tempeh) would also make for a good filling.

we use so much pita! I mean of coarse there are all the Greek sandwiches from Gyros to kabobs and Falafel. Any meats work though. I make mix of sauerkraut, kielbasa in a sauce of sour cream and mustard that my family goes gaga for. We also cut and toast them for chips for hummus, tomato salad with feta, and olive salad. Tuna salad, egg salad and ham salad are all good too. Can you tell we eat a lot of it

anything that you think would taste good. Pita is a bread that is used for sandwiches, but what ever you would put in a sandwich, like roast beef, tuna, salmon, heck if you like chili you can make a chili sandwich, a meat sauce for spaghetti sandwich, a curry sandwich and so on. Use your imagination.

I've seen regular sandwich stuff in them, I really don't think pita works well without lettuce and tomatoes, but that's just me... Except I'll eat the stuff plain, I like pita bread.

I ususally do the chicken salad thing too...but I think a steak that has been thin sliced and cooked would be good and then you can use your imagination to put other things inside....Like how about some cole slaw too on top of the beef or maybe shredded BBQ pork?

Pita pockets are great for anything resembling a "sandwich". I use them for a taco...all the taco fixings in the pocket bread. It is really great. But chicken salad in one is also good..you can add some lettuse which makes it good. But even a sloppy joe or grilled cheese in a pocket bread..anything you can make using 2 slices of bread..you can do the same with pita bread.
