We live in the era where fats are blamed for everything. From high blood pressure to cholesterol, fats are to blame. Of course, everything that comes in large amount is bad for you, even water(check water intoxication).I just think that fats are being discredited.Let us not forget that the brain is mostly fat. Now,I have been experiencing with the ketogenic diet, where carbohydrates are reduced to about 30-50g a day,and fats make up for the main part of the diet. The first days were a disaster,I felt like I couldn't function. But,after that,I felt better and better. My blood work was perfect, even better than the results before the diet.Let us think a little bit before blaming fats for all the bad things that can happen to the body.

I have heard that before. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, although I don't eat very much meat and very little red meat. I have kidney disease so I was told to avoid too much protein. I wonder, though, if that's good advice, since my blood pressure and bad cholesterol have both increased. Some fats are bad for you, and those are the ones that are so processed that our bodies don't know what to do with them. Shortening and margarine are the two worst. Fats that are solid at room temperature cause more problems to our bodies, but our bodies recognize natural fats that are solid at room temperature and know what to do with them.

Margarine is one of the worst fats ever seen.I mean, you take an unsaturated fat, which is in liquid form, and then you hydrogenate it to become saturate,in solid form. And the catalyst for this reaction is Nickel. I would avoid margarine for my dear life.

Agreed. I haven't eaten margarine knowingly for years and never will.

For me fat is important in our diet since they are used in dissolving some fat-soluble vitamins. furthermore, fats are still good if it was taken in moderation or in right amount.

Whether fats are bad for you or not depends on the types of fat you are eating. Fats come in many form, such as saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. The so called "bad" fats are the saturated, found in large amounts in meats. That doesn't mean you shouldn't eat any of them, but we tend to eat too much of them. The monounsaturated are found in vegetable oils, as well as meats. If you get them from vegetable oils they are better than from meats because of course the meat source also comes with saturated fats. The best fats are polyunsaturated and they can come from vegetable sources such as flax, and some vegetable oils like olive and canola, but the best source of polyunsaturated is sea food, especially salmon, sardines and herring. By the way, saying that "anything that comes in large amount is bad for you, even water" is no argument that its ok to eat fats such as saturated fats. Such as statement can be used to eat or drink anything you want, but there are definitely things that are bad for you and saturated fats are one of those things.

Thanks for your comment! When I said "Anything that comes in large quantities is bad for you, even water" I was trying to say that everything in excess is bad. I personally find it more likely to eat more carbs than fats. There are studies that show that saturated fats are bad, others that say otherwise.Let us stand back until science proves or disproves this fact. It is important though to combine the nature of fats.I would only excess on omega 3's.:))Otherwise,I tend to mix sources.

Actually some good fats are important in our body but other are not good enough to our body. Too much bad fats are not good for our body so we need discipline and take care in every food we can take... and we should aware the posibility if we don't have discipline in our health...
