We see around us always there are so many small kids, women doing work of collecting waste and working as a domestic servant on very less income.Do you think there should be a strong legislation to protect the rights of waste collectors and domestic servants? If yes, how will it help to eradicate the child labour problem.

I have seen children working here in Goa and it is very painful. It is the time for them to go to school and play, not to work. I wish there are a way to change things how they are working at the moment. i wish I could do some magic. that would be amazing. thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

hi roshigo, there is no such interest to the Govt about waste collectors and domestic servants, now a days people are busy with their earnings, they are also collecting money from various ways,so both are equal they collect money and these waste collectors collect waste papers,so any voluntary organization should help them, have a nice day.

We have similar things in my city. It seems that local government has no hand to control it yet. They are still better if compared to those lazy beggars.

Child labor itself is against the law. And I think all countries have their own laws about it. Aside from the UN who had laws against the rights of a child. But to fully implement it requires a strong political will and full cooperation of the common people. I think to fully eradicate this problem, our government must address first its root cause - poverty. If there are deeper causes of this, then they had to resolve it first before they can stop child labor in any country.

I think awareness can be a solution to this. But what i think is Child labor is not a crime iff followed with proper rules and law. There are many laws for child labor which allows a child not to do heavy work and about providing of meals to them and also education along with the work is mandatory. This is a good solution for those poor children and poor parents those who want to give their child education and proper food and they themselves cannot afford it. So what they can do is they can send their child to work and side-by-side they can educate themselves with some decent earning. But the problem here is most of them are not aware of the laws made for child labor. If they are made aware then the problem can be minimized giving good results in future. But many problems are interlinked so it will a slow process.

From my own point of view, I think child labor and domestic servitude are just effects of THE problem. If we start thinking and elect the right official then we may be able to lessen corruption which leads to poverty and if we can eradicate poverty then child labor and domestic servitude will cease to exist.

What kind of legislation are you talking about? And I do not understand how that will take care of child labor.I live in the United States and we do not have a child labor law here.Matter of fact my teenage daughter is having problems getting a part time job.

Poverty cause child labour - Reduce poverty and better job for parents to reduce child labor.
Child labor is just another symptom of poverty hitting at the family. CHild labor is used to supplement the family income to feed their own mouths. If want to eradicate child labor have to tackle the economic and reduce poverty. These children work to buy food for family. So beside law also need to give better jobs to their parents too for long term effect.

Govt. announced some rule about this child labour but nobody apply this. Still in many company's, hotels, homes child are doing work. I dont know why kids collect the wast things may be for use or selling. You are right domestic servant income is less but the women spend only 2 to 3 hours daily and from single home she gets 500 to 600 monthly means her earning is 1500 to 2000 monthly if she are working in 2 to 3 houses

Hi friend, you are right we can see a lot of servant maids and working children in our place, most of them don't get the proper salary and working hard for a little income due to their poverty, some acts are available to protect them, however they don't know more about this kind of law and doing their work for a low salary

Hi, these poor people don't know the laws. They send their children to work for earning money. Illiteracy is also the reason for child labor. Thank you for the response.

I think it is because these people do not have a choice. It is not because of the law. These kids can't go to school since they do not have the money for it. Yes, there are public schools but textbooks and uniforms are not free. Some poor families can't afford this so they just bring their children to their "workplace" ant their children will work with them. If you pass laws to eradicate child labor, I think it will just result to hunger in the family.

I saw on TV how children aged 8 to 15 would carry newly cut lumber for more than a mile just for 8 pesos only in a place where labor rate is 250 pesos a day. The lumber which estimate to be about more or less 30 kilos or about 30 board feet. With that expose, will the government just ignore it and let alone the illegal cutter?

the child labor happened because parents can't gain sufficient income for living. so, the focus is not only on child labor, but also empower parents to generate money

Child labor and related vices won't end through strict legislation. I've always believed that people do menial jobs since they have nothing better or simply because they are poor. On the other hand there are people who would like to pay very little for those menial jobs. The best option might not be legislation on waste collectors or domestic workers but rather economic empowerment for all citizens. I rest my case.
