Do you smock your toddler before they eat?

I either smock my daughter in public or take off my daughters shirt at home or give her a huge bib when she eats because of the mess! I want to get the floor tarp but haven't gotten to yet. I hate the added laundry stains of course too. I have heard of baby food spoon dispensers to prevent having to go into a plate for the younger ones. Are there any more alternatives you have heard off too? Do you cover your child and how far do you go to prevent the mess?

When I was little we would go over to my aunt and uncles once a month for a huge family dinner. We would always eat spaghetti and I can remember my aunt making my cousin take his shirt off to eat I did not understand till one time when we were eating and he got spaghetti on his back I still cant figure out how he managed that one but since then I was worried about if my kids would have that same issue he would eat every thing else just fine but spaghetti was a huge mess no matter what my aunt did. Now that I have kids I am happy to say that my daughter never had that problem and when I did feel that she needed a cover we carried an older T-Shirt that I had out grown over the years and we put her in that it hung down to her knees and was sure to protect what ever she happened to be wearing. How ever when she did go to school and was eating lunch I was able to donate aprons to the school for all the little kids to wear during lunch. I was the star of the school and many parents still thank us for the donation as we have saved them tons of money on ruined clothing.
