Okay, so I am always talking about these shootings... Last week I was talking about the Batman shooter. Today, I would like to discuss the 23 year old man who shot and killed six innocent people, and severely injured former Representative Gabriella Giffords. This boy, who has been now diagnosed as being schizophrenia, has a choice to avoid a death penalty for his crimes. He has been offered a plea bargain. If Loughner pleads guilty, they will wave the death penalty and he will instead be sentences a life-term in prison. I read in the paper that the families of the other 6 victims are supporting this option of a life sentence in place of the death penalty. I can imagine, a guaranteed life time sentence would be considered as a satisfactory punishment for family members of the six victims. Not pleading guilty would give the boy a shot at being found innocent.... The anticipation of that verdict would be enought to drive you crazy!!! So, I am curious what you myLotters think... Do you beleive Jared Loughner should get the death penalty?? Or do you agree that a life-time punishment would be sefice?? I personally have mixed feelings on the entire 'death penalty' topic. My initial reaction is to appose any death penalty. I would think that death would be the easy way out. That a violent offender should have to 'live' with what they have done. But let us say, for example, that one of my family members had been shot and killed outside of a grocery store the day Jared Loughner decided to open fire on his innocent victims. I am not sure that my mind and heart would rest until he was dead! Let us be honest. Prisons in this country are not so bad. Prisoners can make friends, watch tv, learn new things, read. They, in a way, have a chance to start a whole new life in prison. What are your thoughts??

Being blatant here, I think that the batman shooter should have the same ending as any other serial killer.. (An eye for an Eye) Sure, he had his potential, but we have to realize of what has happened. We also have to think about the consequences upon other people who (at the time weren't as potential) have the same alibi. Just a thought.
