I carried my car to the dealership to get the oil changed in it today. I really hate doing that but u gotta' do what u gotta' do, lol. They had given me a little tab thing to go on my keychain & every time they punch a hole in it but i didn't know what it was for & never asked, duh. When the guy came to tell me it was done & brought my keyes to me he had a new little tab thingy for me. He said there will be no charge today. I was shocked!! Nice way to save money that i hadn't planned on saving. Saving is hard to do nowadays, i think. Can u save money in this day & time?

I also received a good surprize on mothers day by my daughter. I never thought of it as she is onlt 3 years but this was all planned by my hubby . They gave me a good surprize by gifting me a bundle of flowers and a sweet cake in which happy mothers day was written.

Wow that was a great surprise! I save as much money as I can on a daily basis. I line dry our clothes, try to cook at home instead of eating out, turn off all unnecessary lights and electronics and try to reduce, reuse & recycle as much as I can. I clip coupons and hit the sales etc. Every little bit helps.

Those unexpected gifts, however small, many times make our day, Jo. I´m glad you were not charged and I bet your happiness was not only due to the money you saved. At those times, I feel as I´d won the lottery

That's great! I'm going to be saving a lot of money tomorrow. A co-worker of mine told me that JC Penney salon is doing free kids hair cuts this month, so I called and made an appointment for my 4 younger kids who are all in desperate need of hair cuts! Just in time for back to school!

You got your oil changed for free!!! That's so nice of them. I wish I could have that same "no charge deal" here in my place. Saving is hard to do nowadays as you said but you got one without a hint. I don't really know how and when I could save that way. Time is hard but thank God there still some pleasant surprises such as that one. Enjoy your weekend dear!

Wasn't the car a bit too heavy to carry all the way to the dealership? You certainly do have to love nice surprises like that don't you. The problems with trying to save money in today's consumerist society is that everywhere we look, we are being bombarded with more ways to spend our money. Saving can be easy if you choose to ignore all those distractions like trying to keep up with the Joneses and choose to live a more simplistic lifestyle.

Do you mean he changed the oil and there was no charge? That's almost impossible, anyways saving money is the most interesting and wise thing a human being can do.

Two weeks ago, I took our car into Midas for a free diagnostic. The estimate they gave me was for slightly more than $900! My heart sank, since we don't have the money and we haven't even owned the car for six months! Well, my boyfriend and I agonized for several days, and then I came up with the idea to call our former mechanic. That estimate was for just over $600, better, but we still had no idea how to come up with the money. Last week, Jim's brother sent me a text message. He said he found the parts we needed on eBay. I was hesitant, since neither of us know how to do the repair work. And while our neighbor helped out fixing a broken window motor (this car is a money pit!), I asked him if he knew how to do the work. He said yes, but then went on to say he needed a garage to have the car out of the weather. I was bummed, but felt it was worth mentioning to Jim. That's when he reminded me of the garage we're renting for storage! Now I'm just waiting to see our neighbor to ask if he was able to get the parts ordered. We're going to give him a gift card for a restaurant and offer to babysit his daughter so that he can have a date night with his wife. We've already got a gift card we'll give them, and it probably won't cost more than $150 or $200 for the parts! So we've managed to save more than 75% on much-needed car repairs! One can find ways to save, although it's not always this easy. Sometimes it takes some creative research (like me), but it does take being patience to continue the search. I'm happy that your car dealer gave you a free oil change-that's a great perk these days! They know that because they gave you a free oil change, you'll be more likely to recommend them to others.

It was definitely a lemon, in my opinion. To have EVERYTHING falling apart within a week (fuel filter, window motor, both front wheel hubs and a radiator full of sealant) does NOT make me happy. But we were in a position where we had no choice at the time (2 weeks after we sold my old car, the front axle broke!). We're going to stick it out for the time being, and then find something more economical. Glad someone has better luck with cars!

oh my gosh the front axle wow years bak this h appened to us with a lemon of a car and we were about to make a right turn when it happened. om my the cars piled up behind us on the busiest street in Costa Mesa,. two heroic young police officers' risked life and limb to push our car around the cornet to a service station garage. they even joked about being sure their life insurances were intact. I was so pleased with the way they helped us and it was awful to have stopped all that traffic. Some cars might be new but they are real lemons,. this was years back. I am now widowed and have no car.

Good for u for doing so much research & coming up w/a good solution to your car problems.I hope everything works out fine for u. Sounds like u may have bought a lemon. I have done the same thing many times & it's the pits to constantly have trouble w/your car.I have been so lucky[knock on wood] w/the last car i bought , almost afraid to brag on it,. Thanks for responding.

I remember when I use to drink coffee in starbucks. They have also this kind of perks where if you regulary drink coffee they will punch this card and you will get a limited edition starbucks coffee planner for free. Its nice that establishments give this kind of things for their loyal customers.

Oh..that is nice! It is tough to save money these days. I do a few things to try. I use a grocery store card to get discounts and at one time they offered "gas dollars" for every so much that you purchased. I can not tell you how many times I filled up the gas tank when they were doing that. I wish they would do it again. That saved a bunch of money.
