Are you excited for the new season of Grey's out of habit?

I am a true, hardcore, Grey's fanatic. I've watched the show religiously since the very first episode and even watched the re-runs on Lifetime. I still like the show, but I don't think I have the passion for it that I used to. I'm still going to watch it, but only because I'm afraid I'll miss something. After George died in season 5, I didn't really lose interest, but the show just wasn't the same. So many favorites are gone now...George, Izzy, Burke, Lexie...the show almost seems like it's getting to be like E.R. was in it's final days. Most of the original, loved characters gone, no where else to really go with the story. I mean really, how much more can the writer's of the show really come up with? So are all of us Grey's lovers still watching just because Thursday nights at 9pm from September to May just wouldn't be the same? I looked at the shows ratings from last year and the show was ranked 34th on ABC in it's 8th season as oppose to it's number 3 spot in it's 3rd season. I keep hearing rumors that Season 9 will be the last for Ellen Pompeo AND Patrick Dempsey. I mean honestly, how many people are really going to still watch the show with no Der/Mer? You can't have Grey's Anatomy without Dr. Grey...Seriously! (Pun intended =) )

I'm a Grey's fan and I'm looking forward to the new season just because there are still so many unanswered questions that I'd like to see have a final answer. But, I am getting kind of tired of all these dramatic accidents that the show keeps having. Yes, it's entertaining but I wish they wouldn't get rid of so many characters. They keep getting rid of old ones and bringing in too many new ones that I don't really care about. If Derek and Meredith are no longer on the show I probably wouldn't watch it anymore. Once those two characters are gone, I think it'll be all downhill for Grey's Anatomy.

I've been thinking that too. I still watch Private Practice and for a while it seemed to have a lot more going on than Grey's. Now, it's just been really boring and Grey's has picked up again. Hopefully the new seasons for both shows get better. I don't know how much longer I can stick around watching them...

I watch the show every season too. I love it, but am starting to think the same as you. I think the writers are running out of ideas. Last season when Der/Mer talked of moving I figured the show was ending, but then they decided to stay. I was shocked when they killed off Lexi because I thought that was how they were going to keep it as Grey's Anatomy if Mer left. I figured they would just start to focus the show around her guess I was wrong. I don't think they have more than one or two seasons left before the show comes to an end. All I hope is that they wrap it up with a good ending that won't leave unanswered questions.

I agree. Now that Lexie and Mark are gone, Teddy left, Arizona is probably going to go, I don't think there's too much more to add to their story. I think there's another season or 2 at best. But you never know, Shonda Rimes surprises me every season with new story lines new drama. =)
