A felony charge for lying about address??

Recently a local woman was charged with a felony for lying about her address to send her children to a better school. She lived on the border of the school district and must have felt like the district that she was in was not the ideal one for her children. When it was found out, I agree that she should have been reprimanded, maybe paid a fine and her kids put in the correct school district. But, they charged her with a FELONY! Something that will follow her for the rest of her life. Was this too extreme? I think that it was. I, personally, think that it's asinine and costs the start more money than it's even worth. She is just a mother who wanted better for her children.

I find it weird you can't send your kid(s) to the school you like or prefer (which is a battle over here too no matter if you can pay for the school or how smart your kids are). Personally I think it would be useless to give the wrong address since teachers will visit your home, contact you etc. If this is the only way to get what is best for your kids I dont think it's a crime or anyone should be charged for that.
