why would you be smoking anyway?

almost anywhere you go, you see people smoking. while we know the health hazards smoking imposes, some still do it even without regard for public etiquette and common sense. why do people smoke, and what keeps them from stopping the habit? i tried smoking for some time during my earlier years. but then, i could see nothing to it but "social" acceptance - from smoker acquaintances, that is. other than that, i don't see i could get any benefit from it mentally, emotionally, physically, etc. some claim it to be addictive. well, that's another thing. what made you start smoking in the first place?

Smokers start smoking because they see other people smoke. Might be parents but also if the parents are not smoking they can start with it with their friends. But I don't agree with you that I see more and more people smoking. Actually I see less people smoking, esp. outside which is a good thing. I think this also has to do with the fact the law changes (no smoking in public rooms/places).

there maybe less and less smokers, but that is just in some places. there are laws that prohibit smoking. but who's implementing. probably in your area, this is observed. but in other places, well...

Hi, I don't smoke always. I don't have the habit. but occasionally I smoke. Sometimes people like to smoke for curiosity. And it become the habit and then they become addicted. And it becomes difficult to quit. I don't think it has any benefit.

that may be the start. add curiosity to peer pressure, then you can see the habit forming. the reason it is difficult to quit is that it is quite addicting. if you don't have enough willpower, the more difficult it would be to push it aside. i'm just not sure about the "no benefit" part. though personally, that's what i think too. but medically, or clinically, we just don't know it yet.

I don't know what people get by smoking and they know that it is injurious to health. People can be so ignorant about it and I don't understand what they get out of it. I have never smoked and I really don't know what one gets by doing it. I think all reasons are crap if they give any. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

well, there are just some things that we have to experience in order for us to understand. i am not one to judge, though i smoked in my earlier years so i know how to say that it didn't get any direct benefit from it. anywway, thanks for your opinion on the matter. it's a good thing you don't have to experience it to know that it is harmful.

Hi murkie, Smokers get satisfaction from smoking but I don't know how or why. I have even tried to smoke once to find out what's likeable in smoking (and that will be the first and last), but there's nothing to it really. Some people find smoking as past time, and yes there are people who get addicted to smoking and they love everything about it that they can't stand a day without it.

in addition, most smokers smoke just because it is popular. if you ask them why they smoke, they wouldn't know it themselves.
