I do look sad whenever I see people treating these animals badly. what is your view? How exactly should they be treated? Thanks....

Dogs can be all of those things or one of them depending what you want from your pet. Personally I just like a dog that is loyal as a pet. I don't feel I need a guard dog here. I treat them like a member of the family more than anything else. So my dogs are my pets and my friend.

Yep we are their best friends for sure. I love that dogs will always greet you when you get home, unlike sometimes some people will be busy when you get home so they won't pry away from what they're doing to greet you sometimes. But a pet will always drop his toy to come see his master! What a great display of affection

You said it. Dogs are probably the most loyal friend one could ever have. They will greet and wag their tail when you leave the house and when you get back in the afternoon, they are usually the ones to greet you first with even more enthusiasm because you arrived home safely.

My dog is a best friend to me and because she is treated so well she is an amazing protector of my family. She protects me and the kids so well. Nobody would come into this house if I did not let them in, let's just say that. Lol. At the same time though, she is the most sweet and loving dog to us and she absolutely loves kids of all ages. She is an all around awesome dog! I would not trade her for anything. I think the way to make them the best guard dogs is to show them love, then they will want to protect you!

I totally agree with you LovingMyBabies. My husband and I have a Boxwieler (cross between an American Boxer and a Rotwieler) and we've had her since she was born. My husband trained dogs in the past, so I learned from him the right way to take care/train our dog. She too can be the most loving dog in the world, but she is also very protective. When a person has a dog, they must treat them with respect and in return they will respect/protect you. Just like any human, when a person abuses a dog, whether it be mentally or physical, they lose their spirit. You don't want to yell or kick them, just like you wouldn't a person. The punishment for an animal abuser should be just as strict or even stricter than human abuse.

Dogs are great companion just like the one depicted in the movie "Hachiko". The dog waited for its owner/master everyday without fail at the train station in Japan. It was based on a true story. Another movie showed some dogs was trained to guide the blinds. However there are also cases where dogs killed passerby, jogger and trespasser. Society and authority blamed the owners for not taking good care of their dogs which went out and attacked people. Dogs should be treated well by owners, they are like guards, pets and friends too.

You reminded me again of that touching movie where the dog stayed daily in the train station waiting for his master. It actually made me love my dogs even more especially when they give me that excited look whenever they see me get home.

Dogs are mans bestfriend. We should treat them right and care for them. I really love dogs. I get mad when someone is hurting them.

There are a lot of context about how we treat dogs. I am pet lover, I loved dogs. Some cast cruelty to them, they are cast away to become stray. The worst case, some nationalities loved dog meat, meaning they were been slaughtered for food. That's really a bad thing to ponder.

good points. I also have the movie hachiko. dogs are friends indeed. it reminds me of my grandma's dog. he is called tiger cos he's huge. if mum isn't around, he will be the one to let us know mum is coming cos he will be running in and out of the house. we found out that what he meant by the running is to tell we kids that » stop all what you are doing and clean the house. after 5mins, mum will arrive. Happy posting…

I dont like it either , people should never treat another living thing badly . I would rather not to have a pet, than to treat the one I have badly . I think they should be treated like a member of the family , be fed , proper place to sleep , and bath . If they are for guard treat them as such , not abuse them .

my dogs are all three. they are spoiled rotten and are 2 of my best friends, but they are also my pets and because they are treated so well they guard my house on their own. you dont have to treat them badly to make them guard dogs, sometimes treating them as family will make them protect you more then if you were to treat them bad
