Swipe your taxi fare

Well, this may not be new to some... But I am just amazed that we already have it here in our place. A taxi company installed a terminal inside their taxi units so they can already receive payment through debit cards. This will be a safer way especially if you are travelling at night. You do not have to bring cash along with you. It is also useful during emergencies, where you do not have enough cash for taxi fares but it's raining hard or for any other reasons that you need to take a taxi than a jeep. As long as you have a debit card, you can reach your destination in no time...

Well I hope it could be implemented in Metro Manila as well so fares will be paid in exact amount as displayed in the Taxi meters. Sometimes it has become a habit here in Manila that when your fare is 98 and you gave 100 they would not give you the 2 change in here. I think with this swiping then you will pay them exact fare as indicated in the meter.

The taxi I'm working with customers are able to pay with credit/debit card. But there are other taxis that don't want to use it because they have to pay a percentage to the bank so they won't get the full amount for the trip.

I live within the vacinity of DAVAO area. I am aware about this improvement introduce by BLACK MABUHAY taxi within the city. Although, Davao is safe compared to other cities in the Philippines like Metro Manila but they are the one first introduces the mode of payment in taxi service. I hope it will be followed by Metro Manila soon. They need also POS terminal on their taxi unit.

That sounds awesome. We still don't have that though in our city. At least this way, we won't have to worry about cash when we don't have one and all other ATM's are offline. I just wish they could make taxi rides safer this way.

Well, in my country (Italy), as far as I can be informeddoes not yet exist a taxi service that allows the use of payment via debitcard. You must however keep in mind that I, the taxi (due to the high cost), do not use it hardly ever. However, as you said in your discussion, it is very useful this payment system, which is more secure because there is no need to have the cash in hand, with all the risks that arise from it.

This sounds very very cool. Taxi drivers will no longer fear getting hold up by criminals because they do not carry large money with them anymore. Criminals will not take advantage of the swipe machine because there is no way they can get the money from there. I hope this will start here in Manila soon. Having this system will make it more safe for the passenger as well as for the cab drivers to travel at night.
