Gambling - do you like gambling

Gambling -- it is an instinct in some people --they cannot resist. this is similar to our addiction to mylot or facebook. In gambling if a person wins he is actually losing because next time he will be tempted to invest all that and lose that one also. We have famous epic -mahabharatha which tells about the negative effects of gambling. I am totally against gambling so much so I do not like investing in shares also. I consider investment in stock market also a sort of gambling. Do you like gambling? Have you ever won sizable amount in gambling?

I like to gamble, but since I never win, I rarely play. If I happen to go to the casino, I'll hold myself to a set amount ($50) and try to stick to it. I only play the Powerball lottery if the jackpot goes higher $300 million. As for winnings-the most I've ever won is $20 on scratch off tickets.

scorptiobabes it is good to set a limit and confine. but majority of us will exceed that limit and end us in trouble. thousands of families are put into difficulties on account of gambling -- cards, races etc. you won $20. i am sure you would have again invested and given it to the company. good day.

Hatley aunty: you received 20 million dollars notification. the scamsters also increase from thousands to million, billion and all that. To resist temptation to gamble is very tough. I find in meijer shops they have lotteries. scratch ones and other varieties also. Have you ever bought these lotteries aunty?

Hi Ravisivan, Thanks for the response, do not worry I will not enter in to commodities market, because i do no know about it. But I know some thing about stock and shares so I can invest some money there and earn some money,we must be careful when investing fund in stock market. I wish to invest only in A group shares only,so less risk and less profit this is enough for me. You have not disclosed about Forex market, have a nice day.

Forex market is also risky. We should be careful in that also. for example when I bought dollars two months back it was $= Rs.57+. now it came down to 55 or so. I am not sure about the present rate. But I bought it without worrying because I needed the dollars. similarly when we buy one house we should not worry about increase or decrease of its price. we need one for our stay. I do not know much about forex market. pl see whether this link can help you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_exchange_market

I do not like gambling at all, nor do I ever gamble. But a lot of my friends and relatives play cards or majiong for gambling. When a gambler wins, he is happy, but not when he loses. It makes people's mood fluctuate from winning to losing. It is no good to our mental health. Take care, ravisivan.

Williamjisir: Thanks for the response. Tiruvalluvar - famous saint of tamil kingdom wrote 2000 years ago 1330 couplets and he has allotted a separate chapter on gambling. winners may win lose once but lose one hundred times. affected people are not only gamblers their family, their community. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY3uaj9cbFw in this video it is explained in English. I do not know the author but he conveys the evils of gambling.

hi there - before when do not do anything, i was hooked on a play called tong-its (card game). it has a game like that in facebook. but the cost of the money being betted is just one peso to five pesos. that is all, no more - no less. i made it because i am so bored and doing nothing at all. so far i was loss and won two dollars as the equivalent of pesos to dollars. but as my hectic schedule is hitting me, no time for playing over it. did it for past time. :)

missjahn: you are a good lady. happy you have stopped playing those games now. the pity is first time we may win. but thereafter we will be losing many times. further it is an addiction like smoking, liquor and other vices. You are so nice that to admit about playing card games of course at less bet. concentrate more on studies, partly on mylot and enjoy life, be hopeful of an excellent future.

Yes, probably it is fine in your culture for women to drink on occasions. but restrict them to minimum. drinking spoils our reasoning ability and makes us get addicted. happy you are not addicted to it. you are cautious in this regard and that is fine. have a good day.

i stopped because no time for playing it. ever experienced drinking but only when there is an occasion. i do not like the feeling of being drunk, very yucky. good for me that i felt such thing for if not, i do not know where this kind of vice would lead me. it would happened only once in a blue moon... yes - i need to concentrate my studies to have a brighter future. thanks for the inspirational words you uttered there :0) so great

I am totally against gambling of any kind. I grew up around it so I know what it does to a family. My father had an addiction to gambling. He would bet every cent he had on the horse races. Sometimes he won a little bit of money but more often then not he would lose. He would use our rent money or even our food money just so he could bet on the horses. One time he borrowed money from the wrong kind of people & they threatened him if he didn't pay it back. We had to borrow money from my Aunt in order to pay off his debt, but before we even finished paying her back he was off gambling again. His addiction to gambling ruined our family & I'm sure many other families going through the same thing as well.

liviaslife welcome to mylot. sorry. your family was affected by gambling. in fact my father also indulged in gambling and ruined his economy. he was lucky his children could earn when he was only 40 year old and children could support the family to some extent. yes. money lenders -- they cannot be good people. they will be demanding only and without that borrowers will not repay. Do we have horse racing in usa? which is the famous place for that just as for gambling Los Vegas is famous.

i was never hooked to gambling but i do play poker online and i love playing it but i could not play it with real money.. as for the stock market, in some ways it is gambling and it is risky to do but then again it is legal right and somehow it is takes some gamble to invest in it yet far cry from how we really define gambling.

I don't like vices and gambling is one of them. All vices has nothing to do with good life and happiness. Even if other people look into it as a sort of making them happy. This is still ended with sort of problem in the future. Gambling is not just a kind of vices but will determined a person doing evil things... Gambling is also make a person being poor

Not the kind of gamble that one sees at the race course but I get simple pleasures such as buying a lottery ticket which I have not done in a long time now. I have a virtual casino on my pc and enjoy playing there but not for money. When I win I enjoy the sound of the coins that come tumbling into my kitty!

Putting one's eggs in one basket is surely risky. I do not do that at all!. I just remembered I had one gambling experience at the casino in Las Vegas where we were on holiday. I had gambled with 20 dollars and I got back all of it but not a cent more!

allknowing: yes. the sound of coins entices one. you invest in shares. it is ok if you invest 20-25% of your total earnings/savings. even if losses happen it may not shatter teh family. on the other hand when share investment is main business --it may go on well for a few months afterwards it may result in loss. we should be guarded.

Gambling, risk - gambling, risk, just for fun, not to interfere with our daily activities
I admit that I'm into gambling. It does not mean that I'm a professional one but I do take the risk for so many things. I love lottery, instant winnings, I love participating in raffle draws. Yes, calculated risk on some investments - bank and non bank. And now, even for membership upgrades, I'm planning to have one soon. Though I already received some winnings but not material yet. I think, gambling is good as long as it does not corrupt ones mind and will not interfere with realtionships and daily activities. Just for fun or recreation is good.

mikyung: I can understand where one plays games for the same of games and not business gambling it is ok. how can a gambler demarcate line and see that it doesn't affect his relationship and daily activities. that is fine. Instant winnings is the kick of success of such lotteries. what is that membership upgades?

Our parents told us not to gamble because once you start gambling you get addicted to it and doesn't want to stop. I won't gamble not because our parents told us not to, it's also because I don't have enough funds to spend on gambling. I think gambling is only okay if you have lots of money and it won't hurt you if you lose.

I am not one who gambles much. I don't know lady luck, and I am not a lucky lady when I go to the casino. There are those who have won the lottery more than once, but I wouldn't. Things like that don't happen to me. I want to try my luck sometimes but I get too discouraged, by past losses. The stock market is a definite gamble. I would hope that if one invests in stocks they do it with much knowledge of the consequences.

I used to like to gamble when I was young but it was merely out of fun. But now, I don't like it anymore. I did gamble last year when my husabnd and I went on vacation to Las Vegas but we didn't really bet nig money. We only bet like maximum of $5. Luckily, we won. I wom like $17 and my husband was like $10. But I don't gamble big money because you win big but you also lose big and people don't even realize that they are actually not winning.

aisapellia: welcome to mylot. Los Vegas known for gambling -sophisticated gambling--initially people go there with idea of less investment in the end they spend more and more. Exactly this is the point -- when you indulge small amounts victory of loss is small and satisfaction is less. so we indulge more and loss also more. we have to be cautious.

Some people did go there to just have fun and in the end lose big money. But not us. My husband is not a gambler so am I so we end up not losing anything. I agree with what you said that the less money you win, the less satisfaction you feel.
