My uncle took a puppy from a friend when I was in my teens. She was a pretty girl which was 85% German shepherd dog. She was very funny and ate everything, really everything! Even unripe fruit. Her name was Myrto. Later on he decided to give her away. One of his friends offered to take her but didn't care. He left her alone in an unfinished building, no food, no water. We used to go there with our bicycles right after school to feed her and take her out. We used to tie her to our bicycles and she would drag us all the way. My dad had an idea to leave the water dripping, so she could have water to drink. Unfortunately she couldn't stand being locked any more, so she jumped from the 4th floor. I don't know why she went up there, she would be OK if she jumped from the 1st floor. She landed on her feet, and......she broke all four of them! We took her away and she made it, although she had to lie down with all her feet in bandages for months. She healed and was a happy dog with us. She lived for 14 years. That's 98 in human years. Right? I know we are supposed to say "it", but... She was a great idea for a movie :) Do you have a similar story?

That is indeed a miraculous story that would definitely make a great heart warming movie. I am amazed that a dog can live at all after such a fall, let alone for such a long time afterwards. Did she have any long lasting issues after the injury initially healed?

No problems at all, we played ball until she was very old. Never stopped, she always had energy.

She used to jump and eat my ice cream, so I guess her legs worked very well. If I had my head turned, I woudn't even feel a thing. I was left with an empty ice cream cone.

It is quite an inspiring story. I haven't had a dog live that long I think the longest for mine was a 12 year old. It was sad to hear she jumped and broke her legs but I thought it was going to be far worse upon first reading that. I am glad you still had years with her after that. Sounds like a wonderful dog!

She was great. I remember one time I was standing outside my school in the summer, and she was just sitting down. It only took her a second to jump, lick me on the chick and sit back as she was. Never even saw her!

Surprise jump and kiss! She probably knew your routine well enough to know where to surprise you. Our pets can be amazing like that

My first dog was also a German Shepard! My father got her for a guard dog to keep at his business he opened about 3 years before I was born. The weekend of my seventh birthday, I was permitted to go to Girl Scout camp with my troop. While I was away, my father had to put my dog to sleep-not sure why, but I remember crying so hard! My parents told me stories, like how I was so small as a kid, I could ride on her back like a pony until I was four! I missed her so much I even named my next dog the same-Sammy, short for Samantha!

It's hard when you are a kid. You lose a friend.

Oh, your dog was pitiful at first. She needed to survive on her own. She had to undergo some bad experiences. However, after having the injury, maybe those years were the best years in her life. She enjoyed her stay with your family. She was lucky to have you. Happy mylotting.

KOSTAS, I felt so bad reading that I started to cry. Then I got to the end and I feel better now. And no, I have never had a dog that anything bad happened to. But when I was about 3 (61yrs ago) my father came home with a Boston Terrier. We named her Jill. My dad wanted to breed her (he never did). One day she got out and my mother saw her in the yard with another dog. She ran out, got Jill back in the house and called the vet. He said to bring her in and he flushed her out and her pedigree was still good. BUT, she must have gotten out again and she got pregnant. We didn't know who the father was. The puppies did not have her face. And they were kind of like Daschunds, short legs but not as long. My sister, who was 14, was studying Roman history in school and my mother let her name the puppies. She named them Cassius, Brutus, Caesar, and Cleopatra. I don't know what ever happened to Jill, but we got homes for the puppies. We kept Brutus and he lived to be about 16. He was a really great dog. That's my dog story.

Did your dad take away Jill and you never saw her again? At least you got to keep a puppy.

Dog - How old is this dog?
14 years in dog is 98 in human years? I really don't know if this is right but if it is then my oldest dog is more than 100 years old in human years because I know he has been with me for more than 15 years and we have really loved this dog a lot. He is the best dog we have ever. We have two others but not as old as he is. The other is about 10 years old while the other is only 2 years old. I had a dog who was about 3 years old but we disposed him because he was so unruly. He was making noise over just petty things all the time. He is so disturbing so we have to get rid of him.

That's a very inspiring story. How I wish my dogs will live that long, but of course without any harm or accidents they may encounter.

I hadn't thought about her for years. I had lots of fun with her playing ball, no matter the age. Dogs are amazing. It's been years and I don't have the same relationship with animals.
