Can't bring myself to purchase overpriced brand names anymore

After travelling to asia and other places and seeing how much these big name brand clothes are produced for and how much you can buy them for overseas, I just can't bring myself to pay the ridiculous prices that they are trying to charge. In fact it makes me angry. I went into a G-Star Raw shop the other day and saw that they had t-shirts on "special" for $95. I looked at the guy in the shop, gave him a dirty look and walked out. I was legitimately angry. These t-shirts are produced for maybe $3 and they are charging around $100. Who are the idiots buying this stuff to start with, but is my anger legitimate or ill placed?

Maybe, but I think we should direct our disagreement with the corporate owners or backers of these brands. That guy may be just a hired sales person just doing his job. I don't know, just a thought, since I'm not too familiar with the brand. Guess that only means I'm not a fan of high priced stuff, lol! Anyway, I did purchase some expensive stuff but mostly these are shoes that I was able to use for years, and a few jeans as well. But for other stuff,I cringe whenever they even reach more than 20 bucks a piece.

Yeah you are right that it is not the guy working in the shops fault - but he was the closest person to the company at the time and I couldn't hide my disgust. Really we can only blame our consumer society for the situation. If people just stopped paying for this crap then they would have to stop selling it. But as long as people are silly enough to pay for it they will be happy to sell it!

That's the thing, most people I know thinks that when you have the branded stuff, the latest and the most expensive, you're a better person than most people around. And if you're one of those unfortunate few who don't have these, you're nothing to them. I can't believe the silliness of the idea. Well, I'd rather look "nothing" to them than empty out my savings for things that I can live without.

Same things happen to Greece shops as well!We have a shop at my town called Action. There every branded t-shirt is sold like DC,Element all all other brands. So they sell a t-shirt 60$ and right just next to Action theres another store that sells the same products for 10$!They get their product directly from the seller so they might get it for a lower price but thats not the point! The point is that every shop is trying to "steal" its customers by making them think that their products are good because of the "high" price they set!And ofcource your anger is legitimate.

But who is to blame - the shop that is selling these things at the inflated prices or the people that are silly enough to buy them. Even some people that really can't afford to buy expensive clothes still do because they want to maintain a certain image. It is stupidity.

i read somewhere that designers mark up their prices 100% so you just pay for the name. it is insane to spend $95 on a t shirt or for anything for that matter. i think you have a right to be angry.

I've been a bit of a mall/brand girl (not high-end, though, I could never afford them, but I only wanted to buy H&M, Zara etc. which can be overpriced, too, when it comes to quality, let alone bigger brands)... but since I'vbe discovered second hand stores and can buy beautiful stuff for really cheap, I just can't bring myself to buy more expensive things :).

I know what you mean, most of the products are not custom made in a very powerful countries. In fact, majority of the products produced are from in Asian territory. They were been exported, then the companies change the tag names. Even me, I don't go for overpriced items, it is like you are only buying the signatured name. Instead of buying the quality of the items.
