Saw a Pregnant Homeless Woman on the Road with a couple other small kids

I saw a pregnant woman on the street carrying her (probably) 1 year old kid and another 5 or 6 year old. She is approaching their spot on the sidewalk where she laid a flattened carton box which they use as their sleeping mat.
For a few minutes I was just silent, thinking and trying to imagine how she could feed those kids, and nourish herself to make sure the baby in her belly is healthy and normal. How could she even think of getting pregnant with her situation. The kids were obviously malnourished and dirty. I was wondering if this woman got raped or some random guy just took advantage of her and left her. I didn't see any man around that could be the father of the kids. She was all alone looking after her kids. These kids are among those who would be begging for money on the streets.
I feel pity for them, and I hope the social welfare people will do something to help her.

Hi, friend
It's bad to see this, no matter what reason, I think it's unfair for the children to suffer this with the mum, it's so irresponsible of the mum to do that. If she couldn't bring up the children well, she shouldn't bring them to the world. Maybe I am wrong to say that about that mum, maybe she did that unavoidably , but still I hope some Social Welfare Department will get them out of trouble. I hate seeing children in bad condition.

I don't know if our social welfare department is really doing something about cases like this, because I still see a lot of these people on the streets. Perhaps, these guys also don't want to be taken in, because they have more freedom outside and are used to their situation.

I see this happens in my city often. Even in big cities such as Shanghai. And I know the social welfare department does nothing for it. It's strange that the department doesn't do what it should do.

I can imagine how sad her condition is. She should stay at home and waiting for her husband back to home and bring her something to spoil him
I could not think about what she felt and the condition of baby inside. where is her family or people who take care of her? why we don't have such as foundation that protect woman from this kind of situation?

I don't know if she still has a family who can take her in. She's probably been on the streets with her kids for some time, judging by how dirty her clothes and whole body was.

Why are you trying to assume how she got pregnant. Just because she was pregnant doesn't mean she choice to plan a pregnancy or that she was raped for that matter either. People don't always plan out having kids even when they live out in the streets. You can't always choice how your life will end up or where you will be in the next 5 years. It just as easy for things to go bad in one day where you out on the road. It's not that easy for social works where every they may be in the world to give out things to every person that needs help it just isn't always there. That person weather a women or not have to be willing to take help when it's need and homeless shelters for women and children get filled up really quickly and food. My family is poor it's like saying to me how the heck did I let my husband not once but twice get me pregnant because knowing that we can't afford to take care of two children but I don't care what other people think about who I live. I might be poor and not have the best life but I wouldn't change it period. I love both of my kids and I could be just as happy with out a house and living on the street with my children. We've almost been on the street many times.

No, we didn't have floods here in Cebu. She looked dirty, too, which means, she must have been on the streets for a long time. It's really very pitiful.
