I was wondering, if i can add water into the mixture? Mom says it's the golden rule not to let even a drop of water into the flour mixture, or it will ruin my cake. But as i search for recipes online, some list water or cold water in the ingredients.

Adding water will increase the taste of cake? I thought it changes the texture to be moist. I will try it, and i'll tell you when i do try it.

Hey, i tried it today. The cake indeed loosen a bit! It became lighter, just like the one usually sold at bakeries. But the taste is still the same.

You're mum probably has a tradition in the family or her own personal tradition of not adding water. I can say from experience that adding water to the dough does not ruin it. I do it myself from time to time whenever I feel like making a cake. I think it just depends on preference and what a person is used to. What I would recommend is doing it as your mum says once and then trying the same cake but according to a recipe that includes water and then you can compare yourself and see which is better. But as far as your question is concerned, it doesn't ruin the cake.

The problem is, I tried using my mom recipe, and I add a glass of water in it. After I bake it, the cake doesn't cook properly. It turned into some sort of choc pudding. But when i try the online recipe including cold water, the cake baked properly, but have different texture to what mom used to bake. So maybe it did depend on the recipe.

It all depends upon your taste/ traditional method you follow. You can substitute water with milk if your want. I do not think there will be much of difference in the taste.

Is it so? Someone also comment earlier that water can be substituted with milk. So it makes me think that there is no such thing as not letting even a drop comes near your cake mixture.
