Hey guys...I saw this program yesterday that featured "balot"...and it actually made me crave for it. lol. But anyway, my question is this...why do they only sell balot at night? My husband answered me with: "So that when we eat it, were not gonna see the little chick." What do you guys think?

there's plenty of balot sold at daytime now. before however its normally sold at night and my assumptions why are: - there are more liquor drinkers at night and balot is a favorite "pulutan" and, - some claims balot is an energy food hence, it is more in demand at night due to the need to recharge energy depleted by the days work.

That's what i also thought of. However, i think balut are now being sold at the food courts. There's this fried breaded balut being sold in one of the food courts in CUbao, that i have tasted and they sure are so delicious. Specially when it's dipped in spicy & sweet sauce.

Hi donsky! I actually buy this kind of egg even during day time. Perhaps the seller has an idea that there are more customers during night time that is why he tends to sell during that time.

There's this traditional way of selling balot where the balot vendor walks in the street at night while shouting "balot! balot!" though actually, selling balot actually happens not only at night :) Food stalls in the mall and in the street sidewalk already sell balot even at day time :)

Hi, More people eat balut at night than at daytime. As they say, it is the habit of night life that make it so, more people go out to the bars and parks after a day's work and having their snacks before retiring to bed. The idea that more people eat balut at night because they don't want to see the little chick inside has also floated around here. True or not, I don't have any data to back it up. Personally, I eat balut anytime of the day if one is available.

I wonder that too. Don't selling balut at night is hard and dangerous because of the bad people roaming around? Customers would also be sleeping already when they arrive. Hmm. That is a mystery to me.
