I had a visitor...

You know I have a lot of cats. Well, only one of them goes outside and because we had some issues of the feral cats coming after her in the middle of the night, we have started keeping her in at night. So, I brought her in and all was good. Then I hear a funny noise outside. I get up, turn on the front light and open the door. Nothing. I go back inside, hear it again, look again. Nothing. Finally, I hear it again, and I flip on the light and yank open the door, and what is on my front porch? An opossum. The light had startled it, but coming out was the last straw, and it bolted off the porch and into the yard. This one looked full grown. Now, I haven't seen any 'possums lately, but they are building something down the road and probably flushed the critter out of the empty field. You had any visitors lately?

My cat always brings his friends into the house - some of them just "street" cats , and some of them were chicken and frogs lol.. But a couple days ago there were a noisy sound in front of the door. It was like someone knocking the door , then suddenly I realized it wasn't a knocking door sound - but it was a hitting door sound. Something hit the door over and over - I saw by thewindow but I saw nothing - no one. Then I opened the door - A cat and her 2 cute kitten were running through the door and asking for food , they ran to my dining room (I was surprised - how they knew my dining room for the first time visitting? lol) I don't know whose cats they are , but since the mom brought a mouse and ate it in my house , my Dad never opened the door anymore for them . We are too afraid if our own cats - which have been vaccinated - will eat mouse too .

My cat Harmony likes to bring mice into the house, especially if she thinks I'm taking too long in getting her some canned food. It's like she's telling me, "I'll get my own dinner."

The only wild visitor we have had this year is a cottontail rabbit. He roams from yard to yard up and down the block. I'm not considering the squirrels. They are everywhere, but I do enjoy watching them. We used to see deer, 'possums, skunks, and even a fox or two. Hhowever, they have all left, except for that one lone rabbit, due to the housing development built behind the houses across the street. Practically all the open area between I-35 and Lower Seguin Road has been built up, so Schertz is planning a new high end residential community on FM1518 south almost to I-10. We've reached Garden Ridge on the North, Cibolo and New Braunfels on the east, and Selma and Universal City on the west. Should we cross I-10 on the south, we'll run into St. Hedwig. It's a small town with just a few old German settlers. Schertz will probably gobble them up within 20 years, or maybe not. Mrs. Kramer held onto that parcel of her land behind the houses across the street from us until her kids moved her out and sold the land to the city (for the benefit of the citizens). Ha! That's another story .

I don't consider squirrels either, New York City has squirrels. If someone saw one in NYC, that'd be wildlife.

How do you know it was just one opossum?? Maybe it was a bunch of opossum teenagers who were coming to your porch, making a noise and then running away?? It does happen ya know.

I only heard a little bumping around, and only saw one, could've been more, but it was the wrong time of year for the teens. I think the wildlife is getting driven out of the field they are working on, I bet some other houses have even more annoying visitors...

the porch is pretty much just a concrete slab with some iron rails around it, easy on, easy off, and there are some bugs because of the light...

Ha! I saw a possum last year in the alley, I thought it was a beautiful creature if a bit bizarre. My most recent visitor is a baby bird. Cookie, my dog, brought it to me and I'm surprised she did not kill it but she was very gentle. I guess it fell out of the nest. I looked up wild bird care and apparently the mom will come back and take care of it so I put the baby in a box in the tree. That was Friday and apparently she is taking good care of him or her. I did have to bring the baby in at night because of the rain but he/she is out there every day and seems to be thriving. I'll be glad when it can fly away, I worry about it and it doesn't even have its long tail feathers yet.

I had a raccoon on my second floor balcony once but now that I moved to an apartment building, we have a balcony but they can't climb up, there are no stairs.

I haven't seen a raccoon around here ever, and I've lived here 28 years. In fact, the biggest wild critter I've ever seen is a 'possum.

Oh we have them all the deg gone time! We have dry cat food outside for all our cats that come inside and go out and we've had to take the food inside to keep the 'possums from getting it because they eat the whole deg gone bowl! So now we don't see them as often but we still see them.

I don't mind them, outside, but I don't feed my critters outside either because I really don't want to encourage them. I used to have an outside cat, but we made sure she only got what she needed. When I was feeding a pair of strays, I only put food down when they were there.

none like that. here all ever comes in the yard so far is lizards climbing the walls and coco tries to catch them but they are to fast. when i was in florida, its hard telling what you'd see in the yard. possums to. one night my grand daughter came home and was screaming in fear. couldnt get in. when my daughter turned on the porch light there was a possum in front of the door. and she chased it off. we all laughed at my grand daughter. shes so dramatic.

The neighbor kids told me there was an animal in my trash can once. I looked in and, sure enough, I had a young 'possum in there. We put an old mop handle in there, told the kids to leave it alone, didn't put any trash in the can and the next day it was gone.

I had a hornet visit me at a camp site I spent some time at this past weekend. He was infatuated with us. I figured he would move on, there were plenty of choices but I think that he enjoyed the way we squealed and occasionally ran.

I had a wasp get totally fascinated by my lunch in Colorado once, I ended up having to cover the bowl and just reach in and grab a bite out! And she was a BIG'EN!

I can't say I have had any encounters with animals like a opossum! At the stable we have opossum and raccoons around. A few times a critter would get so annoying they were trapped and re-released somewhere else not close by. Opossum can carry something that is in their feces that can make a horse sick if the feces get in hay. Wild turkey are around, too.

Skunks!! Atleast once a week. Lol those little boogers like to run around and terrorize the dogs that are behind the neighbors fence. My kitty likes to go outside at night too, but with the crazy weather thats been coming through he's been going stir crazy inside the house! But yes we've had quite a few skunks come through and even right upon the porch.. and its like the smell never quite leaves the neighborhood its terrible!! :P
