An article just caught my interest a few days ago, where the author disclosed that food prices for 2013 will be increased significantly next year. The main reason he cited was the fact that there have been too many natural disasters and weather irregularities that is affecting the growth and harvest.
However, I couldn't help thinking that even without these natural disasters and weather irregularities food prices have been on the increase all the while. So, I am wondering if the significant increase the author wrote about is being exaggerated. If not, how would the increase be? 20%? What do you think?

Food prices have got higher and every time I go shopping I buy at the cheapest supermarket. I know the pricey supermarket can have special offers and so then the items will be the cheapest. The food prices are likely to be even higher in 2013. The weather has affected crop growing and many things have been discontinued. I eat a vegan diet so what I can eat is specialized. I have noticed that products are getting smaller yet the producer charges the same as before or even more. Peoples wages and salaries don't go up yet the food and drink prices go up all the time. I overstock my kitchen cupboards and fridge with special offers like two for one pound and fifty pence. Next year food prices might be 20 to 40 percent more expensive than now. I hope the recession will be over sometime next year. I would like to see food prices returning to normal.

Apart from the recession, I believe food prices are increasing because of its poor supply due to a poor year of harvest resulting from poor weather conditions.
With the unceasing increase in population and a drop of food supplies, it is a conclusive outcome that prices will skyrocket. I hope that countries would have started storing for the coming predicament otherwise we will be going to have a rough time ahead.

I am already seeing how the prices of foods have already gone up. What else is left? I don't think natural disasters and weather irregularities right now or in 2013 will be the main reason behind more increases. The main problem we have right now is oil price. When this goes up, prices of all other stuff go up. But this gas price is purely linked to political problems.

So far, I have to say that oil prices is the main culprit for the price increments on our everyday goods and as much as I hate it, to our standard of living.
I hope that the world will be prepared for the crop shortages and the affected countries will somehow find the solutions overcoming the problem with new sciences.
