what do you take when you have a simple cough?

September 5, 2012 2:37am CST
I don't want to take medicines as it gives me a burning stomach. I tried to drink a lot of water but I think I feel like vomiting because of the phlegm.. I got wet by the rain and maybe that's the reason why. I think it's just a simple cough.. any effective ways aside from tablets or capsules? Thanks guys

I remember someone gave me a suggestion to take a teaspoonful of 'kecap manis' (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) with lemon juice added. It is supposed to loosen the phlegm, thus help to get rid of the cough faster. Frankly, I've only tried that once and it did seem to help then.

it seems it became effective to you. I haven't tried kecap manis, I don't know if I can see one in our local groceries here. I'll try to look for that when I go to the grocery store. I'm learning many ways here. thanks for sharing.

hi. try drinking hot calamansi (small lemon) juice with honey. I drink this at least 2 times a day whenever i get cough or colds. I am a person that doesn't take medicines right away. also, I take 1000mg of vitamin c to fight cough and colds. Get well soon!

yeah thanks for reminding me about calamansi juice, I will try it for sure. what kind of vitamin c are you taking, I mean, what's the brand of it? I also heard that calamsi juice is best taken in cold and not hot as it looses its nutrients. so which one do you prefer when you are sick, hot or cold?

Drinking plenty of water is good to fluidify the flems and by this way you will get them out easier. During the day, try to drink one or two big cups of mentol tea with lemon and honey of eucalitpus. In the evening, before going to bad, take a cup of warm tea with honey and put Vick Vaporub an your chest and keep your chest warm. You also can put some drops of eucaliptus into hot water and inhale it during fifteen minutes in a day.

hi camomile thanks for the various suggestions. I think you are a good nurse. just kidding. it seems you know some alternative medicines to cough like the one you mentioned here. I really prefer herbal medicines or the natural ways to cure a simple cough. honey, lemon, and eucalyptus are what I commonly heard as effective in curing cough. Thanks

pretty bad to hear about your cough. You should have avoided get wet in the rains. Any ways, you should take a good cough syrup which is the best way to overcome the cough and can be easily taken as it is sweet to consume. Besides you can crush the Tulsi leaves and then it take its fluid that comes out of it can be taken with honey. This is the best remedial measure that can be taken. What say?

hi subhojit thanks, I'll be fine. I am not familiar with Tulsi leaves. I think its in India. yeah it seems herbal medicines are better than tablets. we can get no side effects from the herbal medicines if we use it in moderation. Thanks

I usually do not take any medications for simple cough. As much as possible, I just take plenty of fluids and take healthy foods. Not much oily food and perhaps fruits and vegetables. Basically, calamansi juice will probably help as it contains vitamin C. Although taking in vitamin c when the cough is already there cannot treat the cough but somehow it strengthens the immune system. Anyway, I hope you get well already,
