I believe I am smart enough to discover the whole truth that is why most of the time I can say the whole truth about other people even if it hurts to them.

Surely an intelligent person would be smart enough to say the whole truth using words that would not hurt them?

Does criticism always necessarily have to hurt too?

Sometimes hurting them will make them realize that they are wrong. If they will accept criticisms positively, then it's good for them. After that they may become better people.

"Smart" has taken on connotations that imply that a person is also devious and sly therefore I would prefer to be dfined as intelligent rather than smart. However I also have this idea, though it may be wrong, that we are all born intelligent. Does being intelligent only refer to someone who has read a lot of books and had the opportunity to study - or can it be applied to someone who has not studied the written word at all but has made their way through life due to personal experiences, overcoming problems nontheless?

Indeed! I have had the fortune to work with people who were immigrants and unable to read a single word of the local language. They had had no schooling whatsoever in their own country but the way they went about their life was an eye-opener and there were more intelligent than many who have spent years over books!

Yes, I do agree that some people didn't have a formal education but they are intelligent enough to handle their problems. Those people have remarkable common sense. Happy mylotting.

I used to say extraordinary and some times smart.Smart means something like making good decision in quick time .I use to say extraordinary because It is good to be like special and unreachable to others

I want smart , for if your smart that means silently you are also intelligent. There are many intelligent but hide their intelligence , ashame to show it or share it , in other words they don't have guts. While smart have an oozing guts ,self confidence..

Yes, I agree with you. Smart people are intelligent ones. However, intelligent people are not always smart. They sometimes encounter difficulty in applying what they have learned. Smart are alert to react and are sure of what to do. Happy mylotting.

I'd prefer smart too. Intelligent shows mental keenness but smart shows mental alertness and calculation and resourcefulness. When we say smart, we are able to apply what we have learned. When we are intelligent, we know a lot of information. However, not all intelligent people apply what they've learned. So I guess, being smart is better. LOL. As long as I can remember, our head teacher once said that smart people can be that intelligent but intelligent people can't be that smart. Happy mylotting.

Yes, you're right. We learn things and apply them. That's why we are called smart because we apply things in different approaches, etc. Some just learn and forget what they've learned. There's no application at all. Thanks for posting and happy mylotting.

It's quite confusing. Intelligents means you know a lot. Smart shows the ability of applying what you have learned in different circumstances, you show mental alertness, etc. Happy mylotting.

i would prefer smart. feels Cool. Stylish. Intelligent feels like some kind of bookworm, who knows all, with big spectacles, carrying tons of books, etc.
