How are you cured of being a woman?

Three times now at the DNC, speakers have mentioned that "being a woman is no longer a pre existing condition." Under the "objective standard" definition, a pre-existing condition is any condition for which the patient has already received medical advice or treatment... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-existing_condition What is the medical treatment given to cure being a woman?

That's a question you should be putting to the insurance companies because they're the ones who have made that call. Apparently according to their ruthless way of thinking the very fact that women have certain organs that men don't have such as reproductive organs and that women are the ones who become pregnant and bear the children they're automatically suffering from a preexisting condition, thus subject to much higher premiums. Mitt Romney could probably explain that pretty well...I suppose it could be said after a woman gets a condition specific to women that she had "retroactively" contacted a preexisting condition. Anyway, the point the speakers have been making is that under the affordable Care Act the insurance companies will no longer be able to do this to over half the population. Annie

A few years back women were not complaining when they paid lower car insurance or lower Life Insurance premiums. Insurance companies have to charge based on risk. Women tend to live longer than men so Insurance Companies have a longer time to hold the money and to collect premiums so the risk is spread over a longer time. Some politicians think that if they pass a law it will happen. Now the Insurance companies have to cover children to age 26, my children have jobs and their own insurance but I am paying higher premiums to cover them, by law. My neighbor made the choice not to have insurance for 20 years but if he get cancer next week the insurance co has to cover him at not extra charge and he has saved money all these years, and my premiums will go up because of the loss the company has and he has not paid for any of it until now. Lets face it women are different than men not better or worse just different.

Insurance companies should not even be in the health industry in my opinion.

Employer based health coverage, which lead to Health Insurance was a result of President Roosevelt (FDR) imposing a wage freeze during WWII so that people would not be jumping jobs for better pay. To get the best employees and to keep the ones they had companies started hiring nurses to provide some health care for employees which over the years led to health insurance which provided a fixed cost for the company. Up until that time people were responsible for their own medical bills. Once again we blame the free market for trying to correct a problem created by government regulations.

We may understand such statements if we understood the difference between LEGITIMATE RAPE and ILLEGITIMATE RAPE (as alleged by republicans), or why a whole lot of republicans (US congressman included) believes date rape is not rape - http://www.usmessageboard.com/politics/242338-i-know-why-todd-akin-believes-rape-does-not-result-in-pregnancy.html

How did this become a discussion about rape?

I can tell you Bob, about once a month I wish I could find the cure. Another decade or two, I should have it . However I do have to say, it is pretty amazing to create life, but I bet the insurance company didnt think so, 18 years ago they charged $9 for a plain tablet of tylenol, not even the good stuff. I don't even want to think about what the whole visit cost. I was covered except for that damn tylenol. Even having a vasectomy is nothing in comparison to giving birth - cost wise. I cant imagine what a c-section would cost. Then there are the yearly exams that keep us healthy and hopefully catch things like cancer before it gets bad. So that it is treatable and therefore we can go on being productive members of society. Here is a point, if you were not happy with your premiums, then drop it. I haven't been insured for a number of years. So what do I do if I get sick? I pay cash. What if I dont have money and get sick? I work out a payment plan that I can afford with the provider. I make my payments and they have no problem giving me credit next time. Isn't that crazy? But it works. Now I will be forced to buy insurance that I do not want or need. what if I get catastrophically ill? I guess we cant all live forever. Or.... I could talk to the hospital billing department. Did you know that if you talk to them, show them your income, they can cut the bill more than half. Not because government pays it but because they have to overinflated prices to make up for medicare medicaid payments and the indigent. So now you have your bill cut in half, you make a payment plan to pay the rest. You make your payments. Then if you get sick again.... guess what? yep they will work with you again. Also... did you know they can NOt turn anybody away? This was not a problem we had before obamacare. Even if he says so

My son is on unemployment. No insurance. He wrecked a four wheeler last weekend. Went to ER with a concussion and broken collarbone. Will be having surgery tomorrow. His doctor is doing the surgery pro bono, the hospital has a fund for cases like his. The community comes together three or four times a year and raises money for those who have no insurance. THAT is how it is suppose to be. People taking care of people. NOT the government intruding into lives and making them dependent on said government.

nothing as far as I know. And you do an excellent job of pointing out the absurdity of their fear mongering. Tell the blacks that Repubicans want to put them back in chains (when they wanted them to stay there in chains in the first place) and that the Republicans want to keep women barefoot and pregnant against their will (when it was Dems who lagged behind in the women's suffrage movement). Oh well, just keep telling the truth and maybe some will shake off the effects of the kool aide. I'm proud to be a woman, a mother and that I've also educated myself, held a job of responsibility, and can think for myself without some politician whispering fear into my ear.
