I had trouble giving the government back their money

This is a first, I had to pass through several people just to get to the right one. When I was living in my previous residence, I got an 80 dollar subsidy for my rent because it was too high for my income. It was to finish in August because I am now in a subsidized house. Well they deposited the 80 dollars in my bank for Sept 1. I had to call them today to tell them over the over payment. But it took so much energy trying to reach the right department. I kinda wished I didn't bother. But I knew I was not entitled to the money and they would eventually ask for it back anyhow. I told them to send me a bill, after the ordeal I just went through I didn't trust just sending them the money without a bill.

I think that the way you are doing it is smart. Just hold on to the money. You KNOW that they will figure out that they made a mistake and then want their money and they will want it right NOW. I hate money issues like this. I've been dealing with issues with my bank for the past two weeks. I've had them for years and not once had a problem and suddenly deposits are not showing up and payments are coming out earlier than they should. Ugh. I know them all personally and they keep assuring me that they won't let anything overdraft on me...I hope not. In your case, I'm sure it's tempting to just keep it but you are smart in not doing that. I think it would come back to bite you.

Oh I got them finally and they said they will send me a bill. I don't like things hanging over my head like that. I still don't know what my final electricity bill will be either. Boy that sounds like a big mess you have with the bank. I hope gets sorted out real fast.

Maybe you just should have put the $80 aside - eventually they will catch up with things. Some of those departments are slow. When they do they will ask for it back. No sense getting all stirred up about it. You did contact them. So if there is an issue your call should be in the computer for verification. It will all get straightened out eventually.

It is sorted out now, they are going to send me a bill. I don't like debt hanging over my head. I like to clean up my bills as I get them. I still don't know how much my final electric bill will be either.

it is better that you went to them instead of them coming to you

It would have amounted to the same thing
