Which Bulb Is Better to Use For a Solar System, Fluorescent or Incandescent

Bulbs - Fluorescent and Incandescent Bulbs

I am planning to set-up a solar powered lighting system that I would use to light my backyard. I am wondering if any of you would have an idea which bulb would be better to use. I am aware that Fluorescent is brighter than incandescent bulbs. I am just not sure if it uses less power as well. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Fluorescents would take less power than an incandescent in use..the average incandescent would be rated between 40-100W (though incandescents are being withdrawn from the market gradually..I understand 100W bulbs are no longer being produced..) If you were going with solar, perhaps LED's would also be worth considering..

Thanks. I will surely check LED's.

I also think that LED bulbs are good because LED bulbs consume less electricity than other bulbs. I think the LED consumes around 1 watts of electricity and one can have lots of LED bulbs with the solar system.

I have heard that disposal of LEDs is much more environmental friendly than CFLs. So, we can go for them. What is their cost in your place?

You really need to do your research on each type - CFL, LED & incandescent, so that you get the right ones to match your needs. LEDs are by far the most efficient; putting out more light versus input costs, however, it depends how you have configured your solar system. Huge dropping resistors, etc all add up to losses that can be engineered around if you know what you're doing. CFLs need very little power to run, but all fluoro's draw a heavy input surge of power when you first turn them on. If you will be turning your lights on & off all the time, it would be unwise to use CFLs. Incandescents are very cheap, have no big input surge when you first turn them on, nor do they flicker nor hum & are the most robust in the event of surges & spikes in your system. But, I think you've already set up your system & have it running by now... so how is it five months on?

I think solar system is better to save electricity. I think CFL bulbs are better as they consume less electricity than the other bulbs. I would suggest you to go for CFL bulbs as you get more light through it and also you can have two to three CFL bulbs extra with the same amount of electricity consumed by other bulbs.
