The end justifies the means?

Nicollo Machiavelli wrote the Prince after the turmoil of Italy. It simply means to defend the state in whatever means available. It might be good during in his time but can we justify it nowadays especially in our current government system? Would it be okay to do corruption just to help the victims of floods and typhoons? Even if we considered this system bad they still able to maintain peace and order.Could some of our leaders do the same thing in order to protect the state?

I think whatever the situation is in the world a government has a duty to protect its citizins at all costs and if its spossible governments should also help to maintain peace though this isnt always possible. I think that nowadays a lot of policitions are more interested in looking after themselves rather than other people.

That's absolutely true. The aim of protecting it's citizens are already covered by their own vested interest. It's really the sad reality as of today and I'm hoping that this coming 2013 election, we could make a change.

another sad reality is that this doesnt just seem the case in my country it seems to be in other countries aswell so we all share a common problem

Hi Daisy: I would say no. That political theory has terrible ethical consequences because the person who do this even if he/she is looking for something that is "good" at the end he/she will use humans are instruments. What about dignity and ethical values. Even if the end is good the means should be ethical. ALVARO

Daisy: yes sometime we may have to go out of the way to achieve our goals. here the object is helping others. So it may be considered in order by majority. Still the person who is initiating should not get into problems.

it may applicable in some ways but i truly believe that a person who's heart is for public service will not think or act any evil actions just to help other's. a true leader is a public servant by heart and knows the very least probable consequence whenever he do an act that is unethical by nature. even if Machiavelli will say that its for the greater good of everybody. its a poison already to the mind of the statesmen.
