Do you think that boxing is a sport? Most of you are so fond with this, especially if famous boxers have re-match in a certain seasons. It seems the world freeze for the people, as they watch on TV. Let me point something, we are not into violence, right? The act of hitting someone is a form of violence. The bluish discoloration of the eye and the muscle contusion of the body are the eminent affirmation of physical injuries. Once KO! (knock-out) declared by the referees, the boxer was aided by the standby medics. What if?, the boxer did't come out from consciousness, it is an indication of severe blow on the skull that affects the brain, resulting to traumatic brain injury. Therefore, boxing is a sports? What do you think?

hi, i could say that boxing is also one of the sports and in the situation you telling here is an accident and aside from that the boxer should know this in the first place before he/she enter in this kind of sports and maybe there are some orientation before they start boxing to avoid some heavy injuries especially in the brain.

Whatever the safety gear they have, they still have the possibility of having brain injuries. The changes in behavior will be visible. Regardless, it is really a sport.

It is a violent sport. I don't know why people love it. I don't know what values we got from boxing , maybe the value of self defense.

Well, I think that, after all, you're absolutely right. The boxing is not a sport! The conditions under which the boxer coming out of the match, are sometimes critical. This wave of violence sports should be completely abolished. However, please note one thing: In my state (Italy), the most popular sport is the game of soccer. There is too much rivalry between the various fans, so much so that there are ever fights with injuries in tow. Around the stadiums are almost manned by the army to avoid accidents! For 13 years I went to the stadium to support my favorite team (UC Sampdoria), but now I'm tired, and I just watch matches via intenet. Sport OK, but violence KO!

What scares me the most is when I see children watching wrestlers and boxers on TV. Some parents think it's okay, but I'm not sure that the kids won't think later that this is the normal behavior to deal with others. I don't like boxing as I find it very aggressive and dangerous. There are other ways to challenge others too, but I understand that this "sport" suits some people's personality, and I think it's better to let them do it... at least since it's a sport it has rules, still better than people beating each other in the street.

Boxing or wrestling is such a sport a player bears the potentials of being invalid due to serere hurts from his or her opponent. Aside from this it inserts an aggresive mentality into our subconcious level of mind and developes it gradually. I think every country should ban such kind of sport for the sake of the childrens sound growing and development with morality. I appeal to every nation not to allow such kind of sport.

I agree that getting punched in the face or body is a stupid way to make money, but so long as some fool is willing to pay money to watch it, other fools are willing to let themselves be punching bags.

I don't like boxing and actually I don't agree that it is a sport. As it is not challenge human beings' abilities like running, jumping and so on. It is a fighting and the sports shall be peace with competition. It is hard for me to imagine that after this fighting they still shake the hands and try to be friendly. Besides, the boxing leads to many dangerous wound and harmful for the health. It is objective to the meaning of sports. I love China

I am not a fan of boxing but at the same time, I have to say that I do consider it to be a sport. The reason that I'm not a fan of boxing is because of the fact that it is a sport that is very violent and I am not a violent person at all. The reason that I do consider boxing to be a sport is because of the fact that people that are boxers spend years and years of their lives training for the bouts that they will participate in later. I do think that practice is one of the key elements of something actually being a sport.

Hi shavkat: I don't like wrestling either because it's a brutal competition, it's not educative and people can get receive several damages or even die on a fight. However, according to the definition of sports wrestling it's actually a sport. Remember that even if you don't like it and find it disgusting, people who do wrestling are making exercise. The Roman circus was a sport that was violent, risky, barbaric but it was an exercise and it has a structure and rules so it was actually a sport. But whether it's a sport or not I don't support wrestling for the same reasons you don't do either. ALVARO

What a wuss! Some sports have to exist whether you approve it or not. Boxing has existed for a century or longer, it is a combat sport and it's not for everyone. If you think that boxing is violent, you should see MMA. It's the fastest growing sport in the world and it's stars are some of the highest paid athletes in the world. It's awesome my dear!

Boxing is a method of fighting that carries a large potential for physical damage. When done for the enjoyment of spectators, it is considered a sport but it is no less dangerous.

According to all who watch and through the years boxing has been declared a sport. It is one that is quite violent and it is up to each person whether they want to watch such a match or not. I personally don't. All sports can be dangerous and cause injuries of some sort. You could fall playing tennis and break a leg or skin a knee. Football is known for many leg, arm and head injuries even though they are padded everywhere. Golf can be severe if someone got hit in the head with a line drive and the same goes with Baseball. Hockey is violent too and pucks have been know to knock out teeth and cause other injuries from falls on the ice. There really isn't any sport that isn't a danger to oneself. It is up to the athlete to take their chances while playing. It is up to viewers to choose which they prefer to watch. I still think boxing is the worst and most violent followed by wrestling. Mainly because they don't have protective wear to prevent many of the injuries sustained.

boxing is undoubtedly a sport. all sports have risks and come with injuries this one is just not inflicted by yourself. its a very scary and violent sport and it seems so bad because there are 2 people, what about hockey?? its the same, people wont come out of comas they'll get concussions etc. i dont watch the mma or boxing but do like karate and non-sparring kickboxing, i appreciate the technique in fighting sports

People is fond of watching action. Boxing is actually a sport. Professional boxers were trained well to overcome the pain that they will encounter during their fights. I can say that boxing is a sport rather. I rather choose boxing than UFC.
