How we balance our time between our personal life and professional life. Is it fair to work extra in office how about working late in office?

hi, if you have more free time and you feel ,you are just wasting your time ,then you can involve in office work even if its late, provided you should be happy, and enjoy your work, but if you are not enjoying your extra work not just stop those extra late works

If there is a compensation, then there is nothing wrong working late occasionally. But here in my country, mostly people are exploited. They are assigned with works that could not be finished during office hours and they are forced to stay in office after working hours. There is no compensation and the manager/boss acts like "it's your job; you haven't done it". Particularly, if a person has commitment he is the one likely to be more exploited. And the dodgers are the blessed. They never work and go unnoticed whereas these committed workers get punished if there is a slip in his duty. Generally, others take it granted if one works after office hours and likely to assign more work.

It is unfair attitude of employer. If you are working extra there should be a compensation.

oh it is not fair. haha but then sometimes we have to go through working over time at work to compensate for additional workload, or we have to go out of our way to do things to finish some tasks that is taking longer than what we expect. i guess it is pretty normal for people who are employed to have experienced working late in their whole career. the thing is that when we love our work, and we value our careers, we would sometimes do this out of love for what we are doing and not for the pay we are to get - this is actually just part of it and that would help us and make us feel more motivated or valued in our workplace.

I think this is true for those who love their work. Work is like passion for them

hi there masammo, with reference to your main topic, there is nothing wrong in working late at the office. after all, it would mean an extra pay if you work for an extra time. the matter is, sometimes, we tend to work more that results in an imbalance life which causes our body to get more stressed. and this is the consequence of the thing that we have done.

You are right but sometimes people are too buzy in their professional life i think it is unfair with their personal relations. Overwork also decrease the efficiency of workers.

when i was still working instead of extending extra hours in the office for unfinished jobs i normally bring them home and work on them in between household tasks. Reason, I was a single parent to my kids and i need to attend to their needs too so in order to comply with both i had to do this to protect my job too. No regrets doing it as i am no longer entitled to an overtime pay so why stay in the office when i can do it at home.

I think that is good idea, work at home reasonable justification for overtime work.

I don't believe there is anything wrong with spending extra hours at work, specially if it means extra pay, or professional growth. The tricky part is balancing work and personal or family time, but so long as you make it a point to allot a reasonable amount of time to what really is important, then everything should go well. In the end, it all boils down to setting your priorities.

Priority itself varies from person to person, either family or work it is the choice which someone has to made.
