For those of you not knowing who Dredd is,He's a futuristic Lawman from "Megacity One" whose Job combines the duties of Cop,Judge,Jury, and even executioner... Karl Urban has taken on the lead role for for this new (second) take at portraying Comic book Character "Judge Dredd" for the big screen..(Sylvester Stallone was the first, but put off the diehard fans by taking off the Character's uniform Helmet on screen -Dredd's face was ALWAYS a Mystery in the original 2000AD comic..) Would You be interested in seeing this Movie,or have you already seen it,as it's in cinemas now? also, how do you feel about Changes being made to screen characters to make them fit a screenwriters perception or give them something not present in their source stories?

I never did see the first one because I just can't get into Sylvester Stallone. However, I LOVE Karl Urban. And since I love sci/fi I might have to go see this one. I don't mind when movies bring on new actors to fit the role, but like I said I don't care for Stalone. Never had a problem in the many faces of Batman or Superman either.

Stallone's take was quite futuristic looking in setting,in keeping with the Comics' back story, and I liked what they did with the Judge's "Lawmaster" Bikes that time..I have to say,This New Movie is worth checking out.. I don't want to be spoilerific (am just home having been to see a 3D screening!) but I have to say it IS violent...let's just say it's Community Policing,Dredd Style..

I understand they filmed in South Africa...I'm guessing maybe using the same studios that produced "District 9" with Peter Jackson's assistance..they went with "found footage" type scenes of life on the streets of "Megacity One" that reminded Me of D9..they didn't go OTT with the futuristic transportation, just went BIG with the Urban sprawl look..

Although I like this actor very much(He played the Doctor in the latest Star Trek movie) I do not like the storyline or the movie itself. I didn't bother to go see the one with Sylvester Stallone & I am not going to bother to see this one either. I know my husband might want to go see it, but as for me it's not my type of movie.

It remains to be seen how the character is to be portrayed, but as I read in a Movie Magazine,Karl went along to the reading for Dredd fully prepared to stay in Character and keep the Helmet on..that's a good start for the Character...If you like the Actor,it might well be a drawback for you that you won't get to see his eyes or face!

Just as a btw,it carries a Certificate 18 rating here in the UK..the Original stories were of the graphic Novel type, and this time around, the Movie's a lot more graphic than Stallone's was.
