aren't they supposed to be sterilized?

we see almost everytime about medical professionals doning their "work clothes" while commuting to and from work. what i'm wondering is that, shouldn't they be prohibited to be using hospital clothes outside? i mean, when going to work, they are mostly exposed to dust, smoke, and whatnot. they wear these same clothes to go about every patient, or every equipment that should have been sanitized. and when going home after work, they were already exposed to the hospital atmosphere. who knows what could have been picked up in their workplace. even a small clinic would contain some bad particles, right? so, should they really be wearing those clinic/hospital clothes outside? doctors may not be doing these. but how about the nurses, interns, attendants, etc? the hospital administrator could have thought of it. or maybe there was just no threat that's why this is neglected?

I think it's the only way to show of their degree. Like, "WOW, he's a doctor/nurse." No offense meant for those who are doctors/nurses here. But, seriously, they haven't thought of that YET. ...that it could be more dangerous for the mankind and environment, and animals, and trees, and everything outside their workplace.

maybe you're right about that. but i think the main reason is ignorance and/or indifference. they just go about their everyday ways without thinking of its consequences. well, puera de los buenos, that is.

Hi friend, doctors must give more importance to hygienic activities. They must use sterilized things and keep the environment in a clean manner. Even it is a little hospital or clinic, the doctor must give importance to the hygiene, it will keep the place safe from unwanted virus, germs and bacterias.

i fully agree with you there. they must be in the forefront of promoting clean sorroundings, not agents of bacteria "pollination".

We know that hospitals are among the most dangerous places where we can pick up nasty bacteria. Even if doctors and nurses try to maintain perfect hygiene by washing hands and using sterilized tools, with their clothes they still pick up some bacteria. In the UK I have seen doctors going home in the same clothes they were wearing in the hospital. Here where I live (hospitals are not cleaner here, there is not even soap and toilet paper in the public bathrooms ), I see that they put on a gown that they wear on their outdoor clothes.

i thought uk has a law prohibiting wearing of hospital clothes outside?em]confused[/em] anyway, law or no law i guess it is up to the person to see this through. i mean, you are taking care of someone's health. and all you give is dust and what else. the same dust you bring home added with different other microorganisms from work.

yes it is, i know in UK it is not allowed to use uniform outside, coming to work and going. Cause as ive remember i was working in a nursing home, we were wearing different clothes going to the nursing home and will change again when going home. to avoid cross contamination. and it is a must to wash hand before and after handling patients.
